Chemistry, Period 1, 12/19

"Hi," Tyler greeted the class as they gathered. The classroom was utterly nondescript today, with all the lab equipment packed away, though there was a pony lying on a cushion in a front corner of the room loudly chomping an apple and occasionally glaring at students who were rude enough to stare at him.

"You have been a fantastic class. I, however, am going to be the cruel teacher who makes you actually take a real final on the last day before break. Test papers are on your desks: You have all period to answer any five of the ten questions. If you need help that is not 'what's the answer to number seven', I will be around."

"Thanks again, guys."

Tyler went to lean against his desk and watch the students take the test.

She got a roundish wrapped package from the teacher, too. The bath bomb inside was colored deep purple and scented with lavender, with tiny dried flowers pressed into the surface.

Never let it be said Tyler Durden completely lacked a sensitive side.

"Merry Christmas, Ino."

Him tossing something at Rikku had totally gotten her attention and yet she was still kinda surprised when she got something too. Ino blinked down at the wrapped package, and then beamed at him. “Thank you,” she said, pleased. “And Merry Christmas to you too!”

A beat.

"Even though it’s almost an entire week early, Tyler-sensei."

It would, eventually, occur to her open it.

Tyler shrugged. "I don't know what you're doing, but I'm off for the next two weeks. Call it your pay for TAing this term."

She grinned, and inched her present away from him. "Even though I got the spot as a punishment?"

Tyler laughed. "I didn't have to give you detention this term. I think that's a good argument for keeping you busy."

That got a slight wrinkle of her nose. "It's no fun," Ino complained. "I have to be careful now 'cause I actually work on Saturday's so I can't earn detention."

"My heart bleeds," Tyler informed her, not sounding very sympathetic. "You were a good TA, anyhow."

"I wasn't going to slack," she said, almost offended by that. "You gave me a job to do."

Tyler held up a hand. "I knew you would," he reassured her, then glanced at the present. "Wanna open it, or are you going to wait a week?"

She flushed a bit. "I'll wait a week," Ino said, "if that's okay with you? I mean, it's a bit silly, but it's more..."

Something. Ino didn't know.

"It won't go bad or anything," Tyler told her, biting back his grin at the blush. "Have a good break, anyhow."

"I will," she said, smiling. "Quiet mostly, since I'm not going anywhere 'til the end of it and most people will be gone. But that's nice too."

Tyler inclined his head in a half-nod; his plans were about the same. "Did you sign up for the trip with Master Skywalker? I'm going on that one, too."

She grinned. "You caught me--I'm totally going on that one. No way could I resist."

"I've barely been off-world before," Tyler said. "So yeah. Kind of hard to resist. I'll talk to you then if not before."

Ino beamed. "Definitely!"
