Cyborg Theory

We are starting a new class project. I have tagged five members of the class via a secret email. Those students have just discovered that they are human-form robots. Your job as a class is to figure out who those five students are and how you would react if you discovered they were not as human as they acted. This should take tonight's class period and next weeks. You are also allowed to work on this over the week.

For the ones who are cylons human-form robots: Your job is to keep the real humans guessing and to write a report on how you had to hide your true identity followed by how you had to deal with how the "humans" in your class reacted to you.

For those who are humans: Your job is to give me a report on how you felt to discover your close friends and school mates were not what you thought they were.

For those of you who are actually cylons in disguise: I have cake and tea for you after class as this project may be traumatizing.

The reports will be due Wednesday, October 19.

Also, I will call attendance. Please respond when I say your name.

"What if alcohol is somehow inconsistent with the robot's biomechanics? Maybe it alcohol would affect them more?"

"Or, the alcohol could always affect them less. If we're going purely on behavior," she said, "I'd look for behaviors that seem somehow less human, less forgiving of others."

Her eyes never leave Eighth's face.

So, if the robots were actually much nicer to everyone, you'd never suspect a thing?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
They are? How come?

Robots could be just like normal people, couldn't they? Just... robot-y instead of human-y.

Sam turns to Cally. This is actually information that could save the girl's life someday. "They're not human. A cyborg will do everything it can to emulate human behavior, but there will always be something that gives it away."

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
But wouldn't they know that, and be trying their best to cover it up?

They are robots, after all. They're like, programmed to be perfect.

Like, what sort of flaws? Captain Emo-ness? Could that be a flaw? ::giggle::

Oh. Okay. ::smiles and shrugs::

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Dr. Carter, a question about robots, if you don't mind?"

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
She nods. "You've said that robots have different ethics from humans. Why?"

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
She already explained that one... cause their different than humans. Just how, say, an alien species would have different ethics, or heck, even different cultures have different ethics.

Wow, that sounded pretty good for not understanding that five minutes ago.

[identity profile] valentine-tart.livejournal.com 2005-10-11 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I mean, why, what makes it that way. Is it logic circuits or... what?"

...

"But thanks." She smiles.
