Cyborg Theory

We are starting a new class project. I have tagged five members of the class via a secret email. Those students have just discovered that they are human-form robots. Your job as a class is to figure out who those five students are and how you would react if you discovered they were not as human as they acted. This should take tonight's class period and next weeks. You are also allowed to work on this over the week.

For the ones who are cylons human-form robots: Your job is to keep the real humans guessing and to write a report on how you had to hide your true identity followed by how you had to deal with how the "humans" in your class reacted to you.

For those who are humans: Your job is to give me a report on how you felt to discover your close friends and school mates were not what you thought they were.

For those of you who are actually cylons in disguise: I have cake and tea for you after class as this project may be traumatizing.

The reports will be due Wednesday, October 19.

Also, I will call attendance. Please respond when I say your name.

Gaius is not drooling. Not at all. Hot, blonde, strong women just so aren't his type, really.

Beka winks. "And you, Mr. Baltar, Gaius is it? That's an unusual name. Perhaps the sort a robot might pick..."

"Well, if I was a robot bent on taking over the school, what better way to start than with running for the student council?"

"Professor Carter, isn't it wrong for us to assume that a robot would have negative motives?" Beka looks mildly distressed.

"Like a vampire, I guess. But from their own perspective, perfectly justified."

"How is a robot defined? By being mechanical?" she asks, curiosity clear in her tone.

"Oh. Well... Hm. I guess you can't define in the context of this exercise, because that would give the robots away. I guess I wondered where the line between human and humanform robot blurs away to nothing. But, nevermind, because I don't think anyone canreallyanswerthatoneforme."

Well. Hypothetically." Beka tries to look very innocent and unconcerned. "A human who has, say, nanotech in her system. Or, maybe in her future has cybernetic implants. And she keeps getting more and more of both...when would she stop being human?"

"Thank you!" Beka looked oddly relieved.

"If I were a robot bent on taking over the school, I probably wouldn't start in Academic Affairs. On the other hand, Vice President..." Surely there are better ways to find out who is a robot?

If your spine glows red while we're having sex, chances are you're a cylon.

"Less obvious than President. Fewer eyes on you. Not that I'm saying I am a robot, of course." I'm just having sex with one.

If your spine glows while we're having sex, I'll just assume it's because I'm good at it.

"Perfect choice for a robot, really. See and hear everything. Work behind the scenes. Of course I'm not saying you're a robot but there is that odd business with the squirming and moaning for no reason.."

"Is there any way I can prove to you that I'm not a robot and lay all suspicion to rest? And maybe you can see me squirm and moan for a reason."

"Well, you could try to prove it. It might take repeated efforts." That would be a nice switch.

"Perhaps over dinner?" I have stamina. That's why Six loves me.

*jumps a little*

Ow!

"You're asking me out on a dinner date? Oh. My. God. Robot. Over dinner could get a little messy. Under it has possibilities. You (and your Six, not the tall guy) should call." Her smile could mean anything.
