Sam left for the library very early to make up for missing his shift last week, but he made the mistake of going to get coffee in town, and after dealing with the surprise crowd and nearly getting run over three separate times, he was only a little early in the end. Still, he figured it was better than not being there at all.

Dean had spent some time cooking before heading to the library so he had containers full of macaroni and cheese with him as he sat down in his usual seat. "This still your favourite?" he asked, shoving one of the containers across the table.

Sam wanted to be annoyed with Dean, with how he was hovering and making sure to check on him every day. But he was finding it difficult as Dean kept doing things to specifically make him feel better. "Yeah, it is," he said, smiling softly. "Thank you."

"Anytime," Dean said with a grin, opening up his own container. "So, still studying?"

"Not today. I've just been doing regular reading," Sam said. "How's your day been?"

"Oh y'know. Lazing about, cooking lunch, nothing much."

"Not worrying about finals?" Sam asked.

"What, me worry?"

Sam snickered. "No, you usually don't. You're lucky."

"I've got better things to worry about than school," Dean said.

"Worrying about school is what keeps me from worrying about everything else," Sam said. "You know, like the stuff you don't want me brooding about."

"Hey I never said you shouldn't worry about school," Dean pointed out. "Geek."

"Calling me a geek doesn't exactly make me thing that you consider my worrying to be a good thing," Sam teased, digging into his food.

Dean shrugged. "You worry when I don't call you geek, so..."

"I do not," Sam said, laughing now. "I've just gotten used to it, that's all."

"Oh so you're saying you didn't feel better this week when I started calling you names?"

"That was different," Sam insisted. "That let me know you didn't hate me."

Dean snorted. "Yeah, like that's ever going to be a possibility."

Sam shrugged casually despite how much the idea bothered him. "You don't know what the future will bring. Neither of us do."

"I know that some things aren't going to change. Family's family."

"Unless family goes evil and tries to kill everyone," Sam said, lightly teasing.

"That just means you cut down how much money you spend on Christmas presents," Dean joked.

Sam laughed. "But birthdays would still be the same, right?"

"Well.... wouldn't want go overboard after all."

"No, of course not," Sam said. "You know, I knew you'd figure out what was wrong with me. I knew you'd help, more than anyone else."

"See, now you're talking sense," Dean said. "I'll always look out for you."
