Sex Ed, Wednesday, Period 2

"Seduction," Edward said, "needn't be physical. In order to form a true bond with another person, you need to open up yourself spiritually. If you have a genuine connection, you don't even need to touch. Being in that person's presence is enough. Even if it's something as simple as watching your love while they sleep.

"Of course, we can't simulate true love in a classroom exercise. But I would like you to work on connecting with other people in the non-physical sense. An exercise in spiritual seduction, if you will.

"Join up with your group and get to know each other a bit. I want you each to tell your group a secret. It can be something minor, like a food you hate or a TV show you don't like to admit you watch, but tell them something you don't normally share.

"Once you've all shared a secret, give your fellow classmates a compliment that is not based on physical appearance. Work on seeing each other as spiritual beings rather than potential sexual conquests."

Claire took a seat next to Amber and was just as ready to stare at the ceiling as she was. "...no way is this group random," she said, sheepish.

"No. Way. At. All," she agreed, peeking over at Claire.

"We're cool, right?" Claire asked, peeking back and trying to pretend the question didn't make her a little anxious.

"Absolutely," Amber assured her, smiling. "Seriously. Me and Cal are super fine. Friends. I'm glad he's dating. He likes red hair." Um. That was okay to say, right?

That sounded like protesting too much to Claire, but she couldn't blame Amber for being a little weird with the whole thing. God knows she was.

"That's ... good to know," she said uncertainly, fingering said hair slightly. She might have asked more, but, really, not the time or place. "Friends are good."

"Better friends," she nodded. "We play Scrabble."

Okay, maybe a little weird.

"Anyhow, want to go first?"

"I can," Claire said, thinking. She was going to go for the most minor thing possible. "I don't like peanut butter."

Uh. That's kind of really minor, but okay, it worked.

"Alright, I'll go now." Um. Crap. Amber didn't really have any secrets. She talked about anything.

"Um."

"You seriously don't have any secrets?" Not that Claire had shared a real one.

"I'm kind of like an open book?" she said, her look somewhat sheepish.

"Let me think. Um. Well. Is there anything specific you'd like to know?" Maybe that would work.

Claire leaned her head on her hand. "I don't know," she said. "Like, what do you want to do after graduation?"

"Go to college," she answered. But it wasn't going to happen. Back to Mount Rose she was going.

"Cool," Claire, who took college as a given, said. "Do you know what for, or do you need to figure that out?"

"I want to go into journalism. I'd love to be a news reporter someday," she replied. "My idol is Diane Sawyer." Amber has told that to several people so it wasn't much of a secret. But Claire didn't know so that was something.
