Buffy was just a little late due to her alarm not going off and her body telling her it was the weekend and she was totes allowed to sleep in and she was totally here the whole time see?

Most of the time, Buffy was watching the door, idly hoping Jess had put Jar Jar on a leash by now.

Cal was having a weird day ~~too~~ and he knew that it was only going to get worse as the day went on. He tried wasting his morning by working out, but that wasn't working, and so he figured maybe he could at least find something interesting to read.

He lifted a hand to Buffy in a wave as he came in, on his way to randomly wonder the shelves until something (figuratively or literally) jumped out at him.

"A person!" Buffy cried, ridiculously happy to see someone. "And you don't have floppy ears, bonus!"

That caught Cal a little off guard, as indicated pretty well by the slight jump and the wide eyes that he now threw at Buffy. "Uhh," he said, "yes. I am a person. Without floppy ears. Yay?"

"My roommate has a floppy-eared annoying demon who meesa kinda hatesa a lotsa," she explained. "I think it's evil. I've offered to kill it."

There was a long, long pause.

"At least," he offered, "you've got some time to spend here instead of there to avoid it?"

"And I think he's been sleeping in the common room to keep it away," Buffy added. "I'm still sleeping with earplugs in, just in case. So how are you?"

"Not infested with annoying, long-eared demons," Cal said, although he was currently being haunted by the past all day. "So I guess I can't be too bad. I was just thinking of picking up some books."

"Because you don't get to spend enough time in the library?" she wondered.

"Because...I like reading?" Cal tried.

"I know, I know," he held up his hands. "Freak of nature." She had no idea, of course. "But at least my ears are normal."

"Huh," she said. "I don't know, I could never really get into books."

She said in the library.

Cal shrugged. "My parents encouraged reading at a young age," he explained. "Mostly because they didn't know how else to deal with us. They're good to try to distract yourself with, too, if you find a good one."

"Oh, right, you're from Sherman-Get-the-Wayback-Machine times," she remembered. "We had TV for for that distraction thing."

"Hey, we had TV," Cal argued lightly. "But I also had an older brother who hogged it to watch stupid science shows."

"Ew." Buffy made a face. "I'd probably have to turn to reading, too. Or like, counting carpet fibers for fun or something."

"So you see my point," Cal nodded, dully pleased by this. It's really not so bad, this reading thing. In fact, I was shelving some books the other day, and found out that there are actually Rumor Gal books..."

"Yeah, but then I can't see the clothes. Seeing what they're wearing on their heads like gift wrapping is half the draw."

Or the blonde with the legs of a warhorse.

Mmmm...

Cal managed to find himself shockingly, pleasantly distracted for a moment before he shook his head, remembered that he was depressed, and talking to someone else.

"You know," he said, "the clothes don't really do it for me that much, I've got to admit."

"What is it, the snappy dialogue or the pure sudfest?" she wondered.

"The wonderful acting and in-depth plots," Cal deadpanned.

"Clearly."

"That's what I said, the pure sudfest."

"I can't recognize all your crazy future lingo!" Cal threw up his arms.

"That's okay, you get used to it. Just wait till you start coming up with your own," she said knowledgeably.

"Oh, boy," Cal smirked a little dryly. "I can't wait."

Buffy just smiled. "So do you need help finding anything or do you have that covered?"

"I think I've got it covered," Cal nodded. "Thanks, Buffy."
