Introductory Superhuman Physics, Period 4 [11-11]

Today, there was a basket of dark-lensed safety goggles beside the sign-in sheet, along with a sign instructing the students to take a pair. Once everyone was situated, Jean-Paul stood up from behind his desk and said, "Does everyone have a pair of goggles? Oui? If you would put them on, please. We will have no blindings in this class." He waited until they complied. "Now. Previously I would have needed a partner for this demonstration, but my sister...that is not the point. This is."

The room was momentarily filled with a burst of blindingly white light. When it cleared, Jean-Paul said, "You may now remove your goggles. You will find a handout on your desk." No, the handout hadn't been there before the demonstration. Sassy speedster. "Break up into pairs or groups. Discuss."

Katchoo slumped down in her chair, scowling. "Geez, all these people with speed and flight and crap, and is me being able to just frikkin' disappear that much to ask for?"

"Not permanently, you goof," Katchoo said, her tone suddenly a lot more indulgent. "Just every now and then. It'd be useful."

"Ohhhhh. Yeah, I guess it would." Francine nodded. Like, say, after any accidental-nudity-related occurrences. "You could... try a mask and a cloak?" No reason that popped into her head. Really.

She'd bet herself that Francine would miss the reference, but she wouldn't take herself up on that bet either.

Momoko read her handout but was still confused. "Okay, I get the superspeed part with the handouts on the desks. That is cool no matter how many times I see it. But what caused that flash? What happened? Did I miss an explosion?"
