Student newspaper, election edition

The day after homecoming (*cough* and any post-Homecoming or during Homecoming things that are still being slow played *cough*) found Angelus in the journalism classroom. He'd taken over a few desks and chairs, moving them so that he could sit in one chair with a mug of warm blood on a desk beside him, his feet raised and propped up on a desk in front of him, and a laptop cradled in his lap.

He typed away at his article.

Anyone watching him would notice two things:

1) He was still disturbingly cheerful, albeit focused on his work

2) He was dressed in black jeans, a black long-sleeved, form-fitting T-shirt, black shoes, and a pair of black-rimmed eyeglasses.

It was possible for people to interrupt him if they cared to.

Beka looked up and smiled pleasantly. "Not yet, no."

Her grin widens, "Eeeehhhhhhhxxxccellent." Tucking her notebook back into her pocket, she explains, "We helped Jake pick out his dress. He was reportedly seen leaving the dance with Alex.. and nobody's seen either of them yet this morning."

Clasping her hands piously in front of her chest, she voices guilelessly, "We do hope they had.. fun last night."

At that, laughed. "I'll add that to my list. Did you have fun last night?," she asks, absolutely innocently, while typing:

Jake, and...Alex (Krycek?)

"At the dance?" Duce smirks, "Kinda boring, really. We got Oz to bail early. We had.. better things to do. Missed you there, though - who'd you go with?"

"Not so much with the boring." Beka smirked back. "Public groping is always entertaining. Shep finally decided he was interested in me for more than a punching bag."

She quickly added Duce and Oz (don't know him, do I?) to her list.

"Glad you had fun. Shep? You don't mean that.. Book guy, do you?" Duce tries to imagine Book going to homecoming, and makes a face. "He doesn't seem your type. Too.. gooey."

Shrugging a shoulder nonchalantly, "Public groping is occasionally fun. We prefer privacy. Especially when it involves whips, shackles, and dungeons." She smiles at whatever that mental image conjured for her.

"Not that one. The one who nominated me for Homecoming Queen." Beka made an unpleasant face, teeth bared. "And dedicated a hate song for me on the radio. Pilot-type."

At Duce's observations, she winks. "I like your style."

"Aaahhh, him. A hate song? Are you sure he's old enough to be in highschool?" Duce makes a face in sympathy.

Turning so she can lean her back against the doorway, Duce kicks up a foot and makes herself slightly more comfortable, "Alas, there are far too few who like my style. They all want to buy me roses and take me out to dinner." She gesticulates a shoo'ing motion with one hand. "Boys!"

Beka couldn't help but laugh at the irony, as Shep was actually -- though he still hadn't told her how much, damn it -- quite a bit older than high school age, owing to whatever glitch had sent the entire Colorado crew back that way.

After a minute, she shrugged amicably and grinned. "At least I knew he was thinking about me. He's not much for candlelight and roses at least. Which is definitely a plus. I take it Oz isn't one for the soft and gooey?"

"True, and it's better than a note reading 'Do you like me: (yes) (no) (circle one).', but not much more mature." Duce smiles lazily and comments blithely, "Oz is a sweetie. He has, thankfully, spared us any manner of soft or gooey so far."

Eyebrows raise over the glasses, an expression of injured innocence, "And as we are such a shy, sensitive flower .. "

"Immaturity is part of the charm. Nice contrast to his bedroom manner," Beka observed dryly. "Anything's better than emo-angsty teen virginity. Though thankfully that fashion seems to be on the wane."

She typed:

Ten and CJ
Phoebe...and Bel, did they work it out?

Aeryn and John seem to be getting over the big hurdle

Then studying Duce with an air of amusement, she asked with a quirk of her head toward Angelus, "You bucking for a line about being a perfect innocent too? I don't mind a little distortion... to protect the sensitive."

"Well at least he's got good points somewhere. Angsty teen virgins can be fun. Especially the boys. Sadly, there's no bounty on bagging them at this school." She considers for a moment, "Yet, anyway."

Snorting in amusement, she shakes her head, "Us? Innocent? Spare yourself the libel inquiries - nobody'd buy it." Craning her head, she tries for a look at the screen, "Whatcha writing?"

Beka grinned. "Good idea. I'll ask Jake about that." Quickly hitting the font color icon and changing the font to red, Beka added a note:

Ask Jake about whether it's off-limits to report gossip about loss of virginity and whether we can make a pool or bounty for bagging them. Taunt Faith into seeing which of us can claim more of them. ;)

She switched the font color back to black. "Sorry. Gotta write when I think of stuff. As for libel, I thought it had to be injurious. Charges of innocence, highly unlikely to generate actionable damages... oh, wait. Defamation of character," she teased, then spun the screen around to show Duce what she'd written so far. "Notes for my new column, 'Shipping News and Advice'. The irony kills me."

Seen (Together) at Homecoming

- Cam and Vala, what happened to Kara?
- Lee, what happened to Veronica?
- Angelus and Lisa, what's going on there? According to A: Angelus put to rest all rumors of his evil evil playboy ways at the dance the other evening by behaving like a goofy-in-love innocent schoolboy with date Lisa Cuddy.
- Jake, and...Alex (Krycek?)
- Duce and Oz (don't know him, do I?)
- Ten and CJ
- Phoebe...and Bel, did they work it out?
- Shep and me

Duce grins. "You could make a fundraiser of a betting pool to see which of you bagged more. All in the name of school spirit, of course."

Scanning the list, she confirms, "Alex Krycek. Yup, that's the boy. Doubt you know Oz. He's one of our roommates, and pretty much a lone wolf. That's not news, though. We've been seen together a lot. You left off Paige and Geoff, Maia and Ms. Sidle, Scooter and Red, and Dr. House and Dr. Wilson."

Beka pursed her lips thoughtfully. "It'd give me an excuse to try to catch up with her. At least count she was ahead by four people." A rueful headshake. "Pursuing angsty teen virgins seriously cuts in to time for the real thing. But a fundraiser involving sex, me, and Faith doesn't sound like a half-bad idea."

Beka added the named parties to her list. "Thanks for the tips. I heard Dean Bristow might've asked Principal Connor to dance. You hear anything like that?"

"Sex and Faith are never a bad idea." Duce smirks, "Or so we've heard." Shaking her head at the question, she offers, "No.. probably happened after we bailed. The DJ bore a disturbing resemblance to Bristow. We had nightmares all night about the clown makeup."

"I've also heard this." Beka studied Duce. "Seriously? I didn't notice that... Guess I really was distracted."

Duce nodded, making a face, "Seriously. The resemblance was creepy. He even smelled like.. Bristow's deodorant." She covers quickly, "Although so do a lot of guys. Wouldn't it be funny if it were a relative, though? Bristow's Bastard Lovechild - news at 10."

"Eek. OK, just in case there is something weird going on there, I'm definitely not mentioning him. You should do a column like that. Outrageous Speculations." Beka smiled then shook her head. "Though, I don't know how it'll get more outrageous than the truth around here."
