History in Living Colour - Friday, Period 3 (Week 6)

Upon entering the Danger Shop, the students were greeted with a door and a whiteboard. The messy writing, all in capital letters, read

'GO THROUGH THE DOOR ALONE OR IN PAIRS. MAKE FRIENDS. DON'T GET KILLED. WHEN THE PROGRAM FREEZES, YOU CAN LEAVE.

THE DOCTOR'

The Doctor wasn't present, but chances were he was around somewhere.

Adam took a moment to familiarize himself with the new surroundings. Funny how he was suddenly reminded of his trip to a past Korea.

The man spotted Adam and paused for a moment to take in his appearance. He shouted something that resembled 'go away' in archaic Japanese and kept walking towards his house.

Adam frowned, clearly having understood what the man said. They hadn't been put into this scenario to just be waved away, so against his better judgment, Adam decided to follow the man.

Yeah, he was probably going to regret that.

The man disappeared into the house, but the door was left open.

Wondering why he'd left the door open, Adam cautiously walked through, keeping an eye out for anything strange.

On the far side of the open plan house was the man standing with a samurai sword drawn. "/Why are you here?/" he asked in very old Japanese.

And that made Adam stop in his tracks and put his hands up, to signal he meant no harm. Instead of dropping into a fighting stance, Adam slowly dropped to his knees.

He knew a little bit of Japanese. Enough to get by, at least. "/I need your help,/" Adam answered honestly. He wasn't exactly sure if the man would give it, but as long as Adam didn't look threatening, then he was pretty sure he'd be okay. And if it came down to it, Adam could defend himself, but that was going against the objective of the exercise.

The samurai walked towards Adam slowly, sword still at his side, but not raised to be used. He looked down at him, as if weighing up what to do, then offered his hand, palm raised to help Adam to his feet. The program froze. Outside, the door back to the rest of the students swung open.
