Newspaper Staff Meeting, 4 pm, Journalism Room

Okay! It was Rikku's very first meeting as editor. Not that she was nervous. Okay, she was, but she remembered to bring pastries and coffee, and so she wasn't doing too badly at this editor gig so far. Uh. Right?

Once she pings in.

I have no newspaper-y icons of Rikku. Rats.

Rikku was here. And nervous. And bouncy. So: typical Rikku.

Lee Adama, offering the services of his arms and a smile to match.

Ghanima was there, looking mildly bemused that she had somehow gotten talked into being the advisor.

"Want me to do something on Homecoming?" Lee asked. "A write up on something specific to maybe the alums coming back or the voting for the court?"

Cal Stephanides, promised protector of sardonic apathy and sarcastic cynicism.

"I..." Cal drew in a breath, and then let it out with a slightly helpless sigh, "am open to suggestions. I mean, if anything weird happens, I'll cover that like we talked about, Rikku, and...well, if nothing weird happens, then that in itself would be weird, so I guess I am covered after all."

Warren Peace, picturing all of you going up in flames. Pleasantly.

"I'll find something to write about," Warren grumped from the corner that he'd staked out for himself. "It isn't like there's a shortage of things around here to complain about."

There was a pause.

"I'm open to suggestions, though."

Toby Moraitis, shirtless and ready to sin.

Toby ran in breathless during his break from work. Hey, it was a long walk. "Dudes, did I miss it? Did I get chosen for anything awesome?"

When he wasn't discussing things, Cal was quietly getting a good look at the others on the paper crew, because he didn't really know many of them at all, and it made him go a little quiet.

"All of those sound good," Rikku nodded. "For the alums, it might be, hey, so what's everyone been up to, or is it hard to adjust to somewhere not half so weird? And the court, totally. Who won, who lost, who was a tiebreaker and who had a landslide. And if you get bored, you can totally invent some vote-fixing. Or maybe a write-up on the theme of the dance, and all that? Is there one? I know there was for prom, I forget if there is for Homecoming."

"You could do a retrospective on weirdness past," she suggested. "The weirdest thing that happened, since you got here, and why we all think it's weird but we're totally wrong. Maybe come up with scientific theories for alternate explanations. It'll be educational."

"You could complain about your classes," Rikku said. "Or things that bug you, at work. Or Homecoming. Or people who give you hugs a lot."

She was still sitting at her desk. He'd been promised hug-immunity for meetings, and hug-immunity was something she took very seriously.

"You're right on time!" Rikku bounced. "You have to pick an article to write. Something spiffy and fun. What do you wanna do?"

"Thank you for doing this," Rikku said, bouncing on her toes and trying not to fidget. "It used to be Steve the art teacher, and I think before that it was some guy named Logan? But they both left. Not at the same time. Did you want some pastries?"

Cal couldn't help a little chuckle at that. "Maybe. Weirdness either way. I'm not saying anything concrete until the weekend passes us."

Warren was very thankful for the hug immunity. It made his job easier, damn it.

"Maybe that last one. Those are the worst."

"There's a theme, yep," Lee said. "I dunno if I can give it away before the dance but I can do some writing on that. I'll cover the court and try to catch up with a few alums." The ones that didn't glare at him anyway. "If we need some excitement, I'll create a scandal. Or something."

This day was turning out to be busier than normal. It wasn't that Lee minded, it was just that he wasn't used to it.

But, he was mostly awake and sitting quietly, scribbling a few ideas for his article.
