Newspaper Staff Meeting, 4 pm, Journalism Room

Okay! It was Rikku's very first meeting as editor. Not that she was nervous. Okay, she was, but she remembered to bring pastries and coffee, and so she wasn't doing too badly at this editor gig so far. Uh. Right?

If you need ideas on what to write -- or if you want to stake out your territory? This is the spot for it! Let us all know what you'll be contributing.

"Want me to do something on Homecoming?" Lee asked. "A write up on something specific to maybe the alums coming back or the voting for the court?"

"All of those sound good," Rikku nodded. "For the alums, it might be, hey, so what's everyone been up to, or is it hard to adjust to somewhere not half so weird? And the court, totally. Who won, who lost, who was a tiebreaker and who had a landslide. And if you get bored, you can totally invent some vote-fixing. Or maybe a write-up on the theme of the dance, and all that? Is there one? I know there was for prom, I forget if there is for Homecoming."

"There's a theme, yep," Lee said. "I dunno if I can give it away before the dance but I can do some writing on that. I'll cover the court and try to catch up with a few alums." The ones that didn't glare at him anyway. "If we need some excitement, I'll create a scandal. Or something."

"Rock on," Rikku said. "If you need some scandal-worthy stuff, I'm always up for mischief. And I don't think we can get sued for making things up, anyway."

"I'll remember that," Lee said, giving Rikku a nod. "Hopefully it won't be too boring but, if it is, I'll come find you."

"I..." Cal drew in a breath, and then let it out with a slightly helpless sigh, "am open to suggestions. I mean, if anything weird happens, I'll cover that like we talked about, Rikku, and...well, if nothing weird happens, then that in itself would be weird, so I guess I am covered after all."

"You could do a retrospective on weirdness past," she suggested. "The weirdest thing that happened, since you got here, and why we all think it's weird but we're totally wrong. Maybe come up with scientific theories for alternate explanations. It'll be educational."

Cal couldn't help a little chuckle at that. "Maybe. Weirdness either way. I'm not saying anything concrete until the weekend passes us."

"You never know," she said. "You could spend the weekend as a chihuahua, and then have to write a column about how it's totally normal to be a chihuahua. That might be hard, but I totally have faith in you."

There was a bit of a pause.

"No stranger than being a hyena," Cal said. "I could work it."

In fact, he was already wracking his brain on it, just in case.

"I'll find something to write about," Warren grumped from the corner that he'd staked out for himself. "It isn't like there's a shortage of things around here to complain about."

There was a pause.

"I'm open to suggestions, though."

"You could complain about your classes," Rikku said. "Or things that bug you, at work. Or Homecoming. Or people who give you hugs a lot."

She was still sitting at her desk. He'd been promised hug-immunity for meetings, and hug-immunity was something she took very seriously.

Warren was very thankful for the hug immunity. It made his job easier, damn it.

"Maybe that last one. Those are the worst."

The appropriate response was, of course, a raspberry.

"I can write a column. Tales of a Serial Hugger."

Toby ran in breathless during his break from work. Hey, it was a long walk. "Dudes, did I miss it? Did I get chosen for anything awesome?"

"You're right on time!" Rikku bounced. "You have to pick an article to write. Something spiffy and fun. What do you wanna do?"

Gwen shrugged. "I'm willing to do most anything," she said.

"Awesome!" Rikku bounced. "Okay, let's see. You could have a weekly column, like, about something you like or hate? Warren's gonna be grumping about people, and Cal's gonna be covering Fandom Weirdness." That needed caps. "You could write up some of the new businesses, in town, now that the island has a whole new chunk to it, or some of the new teachers and other people in town, like, interviews? I think the administration's changed a lot lately, you could talk to people who've got new positions, like how Deadpool's the Vice-Principal now. Or you could do an investigation on something. Like how Ching Tai charges too much or one of the teachers has a Sordid Past or something? What kinda stuff are you interested in?"

Gwen perked up a little. "Sordid Pasts?"

Rikku giggled. "There has to be some around here, right? With the squirrels and everything, I'm surprised there isn't more of a gossip column. Who did what, who's hiding out from where. I bet you could dig up some interesting dirt on people, on past stuff or even stuff they do here. You could start poking around and see what comes up?"

Liz wasn't sure what to write about, "is there anything in particular that you want me to write about?" she asked.

"Hmmm." Rikku had to bounce a little while she thought. "So what are you into? Sometimes people do teacher interviews, or reviews of new places in town. Or of new music and movies, or heck, even older music and movies. You could do a spotlight on all of the clubs, and write up one each week. Profiles, things like that."

"I'm mostly into photography," Liz said, which was one of the few things she was passionate about, "but I could do music and movie reviews, maybe alternate them by doing new one week and old the next week?"

"Photography, like, you'd want to take pictures, or you want to write about it?" Rikku asked. "And reviews sound awesome. You could even cover some of the classics that people from other worlds and timelines wouldn't know about, like, hey, these are the important ones, here's why they are."

(OOC: Actually, I think Cal mentioned photography already in the OOC comm? if you want to ping the mun and sort it out, who's tackling what, I'm totally cool with that.)
