Sex Ed, Wednesday, Period 2, Class #6

"This is our last class before fall break. I hope you enjoy your time off and conduct yourselves as gentlemen and ladies during your leisure days. When you return, we'll jump right into the midterm project which will be half of your grade."

"Today we're discussing pregnancy." He took a moment to look out at the class. "Procreation," he said finally, "is a divine gift. Sex is not inherently evil or sinful. When two people join together within the bonds of wedlock, they not only experience the joy of exploring the bodies God has given them but they also have a chance to create new life."

"Each of you began as a collection of cells barely large enough to be visible to the naked eye and now look at you! You are each intelligent, individual beings capable of creating new life yourself! It's little wonder that the appearance of a new child in this world is called a 'miracle.' But this is a miracle we can understand. Today we'll discuss how an egg," he held up one hand, cupping the air, "and a sperm," he cupped the air with his other hand, "join together and develop into a baby." He clasped his hands together.

He brought out the slide projector again and discussed prenatal development from fertilization to birth.

When the lights came back up, Edward brought out five Empathy Bellies. "Thanks to modern technology, each of you can experience a simulation of a new life growing within you. Join up with your groups and make sure everyone has a chance to try out the belly!"

"It has to be hormones," Claire agreed. "Or lots of denial."

"Do you wanna try it on?" She didn't.

"I'm kinda scared to," Kaylee admitted. "I might never wanna do it again, an' dammit, this class ain't gonna be the thing t'turn me off sex."

Claire kind of looked at Kaylee funny. "You can have sex and not have babies."

"Though," she added, "every Wednesday I get a little less interested in the whole thing."

"No, I know, but accidents happen," she said, smiling a little. "I dunno how that...works here, but where I'm from we don't got the supplies to rely on much more'n prayer. But there's stuff here t'prevent things, but they ain't foolproof, right?"

Re: Group 3

Claire looked sympathetic. "Yeah, stuff here is better than prayer, but ... wow. That would suck, not having choices."

"An' somehow," Kaylee said dryly, "I don't think our sex-hatin' sha gua of a teacher's gonna really be tellin' us about that stuff."

Re: Group 3

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-10-08 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"You have to tell me what sha gua means," Claire said immediately. "I have words for him but they're all English."''

Kaylee looked around and whispered, "Fool," under her breath. "It's kinda mild for what I normally call him. But he ain't made me too mad yet, this week."

"Not this week," Claire agreed. "Maybe he's saving up, or maybe he figures pregnancy is bad enough without him adding on his own crap."

"You should've heard me the week he told us bein' sly was a choice," Kaylee said, shaking her head irritably. "My mama would've boxed my ears if she'd heard."

Claire got sly from context, and rolled her eyes hard. "That's the week I got detention for calling him a freak," she said. "My brother's gay. I just ... didn't need to hear that in a class. Or, like, ever."

"I lean t'wards the fellas but I ain't gonna deny that girls got their appeal, too, m'self," Kaylee confided. "An' I didn't choose that. It ain't his place t'tell us his opinion on the subject an' try t'make us like him."

Re: Group 3

[identity profile] swipedthatfoot.livejournal.com 2008-10-08 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wish I liked girls, I always think it would be easier," Claire groaned, trying to keep her voice low. "But I seriously don't think people choose it."

"And yeah, he can have whatever beliefs he wants at home, but he doesn't need to go off during class. It was just gross and disrespectful."

Said the girl who had called her teacher a freak.

Kaylee nodded. Because hey, calling your teacher terrible things in Chinese was totally fine.

"It ain't easier likin' girls, too," she admitted. "Though it is fun, 'cause whenever I mention it my boyfriend gets this look like he's picturin' it an' he's real easy to mess with like that. But no, no one done chose that. I mean -- no disrespect t'your brother, but why would anyone choose somethin' that's gonna get them beat up an' have chun like this guy pickin' on you? I think if most people could, they'd wanna be 'normal,' y'know?"

She wrote something down, and slid it over to Claire. Chun means dumbass. You know, in case he could hear them.

"David -- my brother -- is, like, the most normal person I know," Claire said, not offended. "He's kind of uptight all the time. I think if he got to choose he'd be married and popping kids out by now."

She snickered a little at the note.

"'Xactly. But it ain't no one else's place t'be makin' judgments like that, y'know? An' also," Kaylee added, "I ain't gonna think I'm sullied or some nonsense just 'cause I ain't holdin' on to my virginity no more. That's stupid."
