Detention - 10/4 - Saturday morning

On the door, then names were written.

Abby Irene had been working most of the evening in the Danger Shop and so her hair was a little bit out of sorts as the students walked in. Smiling, she straightened it with her hand before looking over the assembled.

"It seems that you young ladies and gentleman have proven to be unable to conduct yourselves properly in an academic setting. Thankfully, we are not living in my day and age and have been provided this lovely educational tool with which to perhaps correct as opposed to simply punishing such behavior."

"You will be attending a small party from my own world and it will be your duty to act as fits the circumstances."

"Sir," she said with a smile. "I'm pleased to meet you."

A smile curled on his features as he offered a lower bow.

"A pleasure to meet you as well," he said, amused at something or other. His eyes flicked towards the mayor again before he looked to her.

She followed his gaze. "Something wrong?"

He shook his head.

"My master requires my assistance at all public affairs," he explained smoothly.

"Oh?" she said curiously. "And what exactly do you do for your... master?"

He looked at her as if she was insane, or perhaps simply slow.

"I am Mayor Elliot's assistant."

"O-kay... so you like... get his dry-cleaning and make his coffee in the morning? Answer his mail?"

Simon smiled and it wasn't a particularly nice smile. Friendly enough, but there were secrets in it.

"Something like that, though I like to think I'm far less replaceable."

"Ah, one of those," Peyton said with a smile. "Someone who knows where all the bodies are buried."

Simon raised an eyebrow.

"I don't particularly like the implication there, miss."

Yes, actually. And many of them killed by his sorcery.

"Well, metaphorically speaking," she said.

His expression lightened considerably.

"Yes, I suppose you could say that, then."

That made her very curious. "So... would part of your job description include giving a tour of the house to visitors?"

"As this is not my lord's home, I should say not," he said with a faint smile.

"But I would be happy to bring you around the room."

She grinned at him. "Oh well, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Sure, bring me around the room. I certainly don't mind being seen with a good looking man."

He raised an eye at her brazen comment but offered his arm.

She took it without a qualm, having no idea that he might be considering her forward. "So what do you guys do here for fun?" she asked.

The question got a blank look.

What did we 'guys' do for 'fun'? It was either ridiculous or ill-mannered and so he merely looked to her for clarification.

"You know, riding or going to... the theatre or concerts? Anything like that? Or just these parties?"

He grinned brilliantly.

"Well, yes, of course. Your question was phrased oddly, I'm afraid.

"But while I am not much for riding, I do attend theatres and more than a few concerts. There's even the motion picture houses."

"Really?" she said. "I wasn't sure you'd have those here."

He raised an eyebrow at her again.

"Do you not have such things up in Boston?"

No, she hadn't told him she was from Boston, but he'd spoken to his employer.

"I had thought it a modern city."

"Well... yes... but not all of the other places I've been to have them," she said. "And I've barely arrived here."

"Have you traveled out west then?" he asked curiously.

"Um... not much," she hedged. "Someo of the smaller towns close by."
