Ethics [Tuesday, September 30, 2nd period]

When the Ethics class arrived in the Danger Shop, they stepped into an entirely different world.

An incredibly dry, hot one. That smelled really bad.

Anakin waved his hand around the room. "Welcome to the embodiment of gluttony," he said, "the palace of a Hutt."

He concentrated on the controls on the far side of the room, and the simulation sprung to life: dozens of beings drinking, eating, and dancing, with all activity centered around a vile slug of a beast laying on the raised dais at the front of the room.

In a place of honor on the wall was a man, face twisted in a silent scream but his features obscured beyond recognition, encased in silver. Anakin ignored it as he walked past to point at the creature on the dais. "That," he said, nose wrinkling in disgust, "is a Hutt. This particular version was named Jabba, one of the most powerful crime lords in the galaxy." A grim smile turned the corners of his mouth up. "At least until he met my children."

He shook his head. "That is neither here nor there. Today is an interactive experience for you, class. Take a good hard look around. See the effects that gluttony can have."

His eyes went flat. "Touch any of the dancing girls and you'll regret it. That's a promise."

Peyton certainly had no interest in touching the dancing girls. She was actually more than a little freaked out by the whole thing.

Lee kind of stood in place for a while, just taking everything in. Might as well know where everything was before he actually started getting into the thick of things.

Ender drifted. With no particular goal in mind other than a sense of barely repressed curiosity, he was in a perfect state of mind simply to observe.

The dancing girls didn't really look like they wanted to be there - the chains, for one thing - and that really wasn't Michael's kink. He was wandering around looking at the decorations and pets instead.

Oh, look, it was just like home. Except for the part where Tahiri'd never actually been in a Hutt's palace before. Heard plenty, sure, from Sliven and her Tusken tribe, and heard more than a little about this exact Hutt's palace from Master Luke, but never actually been in one before.

It was fascinating, once she got past the fact that it smelled worse than a Jawa sandcrawler could even hope to smell, and of course she had no intention of touching any of the dancing girls. (Knowing that Master Mara Jade Skywalker had been disguised as one of them? That'd put her right off that notion.)

"Ugh, wish I'd actually worn shoes for once . . ."

She be happy -- despite the look on her face -- to show a student or two around the place, if they wanted.

Firekeeper looked around, one hand resting on Blind Seer's shoulder. Even the softest of Hawk Haven's and Bright Bay's (or was it Bright Haven now? The human insistence on naming their territories was so strange) nobles were nothing like this.

She was also pretty glad to be comparatively nose-dead right about now. The scents might be artificial, but that didn't stop Blind Seer from drawing a comparison between this place and the sewers beneath Thendulla Lypella.

Liz wasn't so much wandering around, she was mostly observing her surroundings and trying not to feel uncomfortable about being in a crowd, regardless of whether it was real or not.

Penelope's eyes were wide and amid the band and everything else around her, she managed to just stare in shock. There were no words to describe what she was feeling.

...and then she stood before the guy on the wall and she couldn't look away. She also became increasingly sad the longer she stared at him.

For once Worf did not fell completely out of his element in class. For once it was nice not to be the only alien.

It was unfortunate that it had to be in such a unpleasnt locale.

However that did not stop Worf from exploring.

Jess was trying hard not to look intrigued, but it wasn't like he saw a place like this every day, and his curiosity eventually got the better of him as he started walking and looking around.

If it smelled bad to humans, it smelled worse to Jan, and he snorted in disgust, skin twitching.

He had no interest in the dancing girls, or in much of anything on offer in this place. It made him paw the ground, and the Hutt looked like a bloated snake, of the sort more properly crushed underfoot.

With a wary look at it, Jan picked his way across the floor, happy for once to use his size and his horn to make people clear a path, to stare at the man hanging on the wall.

He assumed it was art, and horrible art at that.

Agnes wrinkled her nose -- the place was AWFUL, much worse than any tavern she'd seen. Gluttony = bad, crime lord = bad -- she'd gotten the message. Whatever it was that Master Skywalker's children had done to this Jabba, the universe owed them a debt of gratitude.

She wandered through the crowds, trying to remain unnoticed, watching, listening.

Ew. Molly covered her mouth and nose, but it didn't help with the smell at all. While normally she was okay with bars and dancing and hanging out, she felt so out of her element that she didn't feel right doing much of anything.

The music wasn't bad, though.

This was like a really warped and twisted diplomatic reception Meg thought as she wandered around and tried to keep a relatively low profile.

Bumblebee wandered slowly, intrigued and disturbed; gluttony he understood, but he had never seen it in this context before.

This place was definitely rougher than the typical Gotham mob club. It was also dirtier than most of those clubs.

Still, Gotham had trained Dick. He stayed away from the middle of the room, trying not to draw attention to himself.

Myn wrinkled his nose, completely disgusted by the palace. He'd been in some vile places around the galaxy, but this took the proverbial cake. Sure, he had heard all about it, even seen a few holos, but there was a difference between reading or watching something and then actually being there.

Seeing the big slug made Myn's fingers itch for his rifle. Or, even better, an X-Wing with a full array of proton torpedoes.

Worf stood in front of the giant slug and glared.

"I demand that you release all of the people you have forcibly abducted," Worf commanded. "Or else."

"Master Skywalker," Penelope said with respectful approach. "May I ask you something about Jabba?"
