"Okay!" the Doctor said, bounding into the room when the students had gathered. "No time for chatting, let's get to it. Get to what you might ask? If you are, you didn't read your syllabus! Ask Peyton or Dick for one if you missed out. They're you're TAs and in case you've forgotten, I'm the Doctor."

There were three doors in the room. "Pick a door, any door! Well, except the one leading out of the Danger Shop. One of these three doors, which will lead you to a turning point in history. This week is all about not messing with the turning points, the important stuff, the moments in history that make today the way it is. We're going to learn by doing the wrong thing. Do whatever comes naturally to you once you're on the other side of the door. When you're done, we'll talk about what happened as a result of your actions.

We're all a part of history in some way, shape or form, and there's a lot you can get away with when you're outside of your home time period - by the way, time travel happens, get used to it - but there are some things you should never tamper with. You'll see why. Or, if you read a lot of alternate history fiction, you'll already know. Go on, pick a door." He nodded towards the doors, then commented quietly to himself, "guess we did have time for chatting after all."

The woman spotted Liz and froze to see what she would do. The guards didn't see either of them.

Liz cautiously walked towards the woman, "I'm not going to hurt you," she said softly.

The movement caught the guards' attention this time. They sounded the alarm and called those off-duty to arms. Now the woman wasn't the only one in trouble. Liz was too. She gave Liz a look. "Run, girl," she hissed. "Or you'll meet the executioner as well. They'll think you helped me." She rushed off into the woodland.

Liz winced when the alarms sounded, she glanced back for a second and then started to run towards the direction where the woman had gone.

In the thick of the bushes, the woman hid. She made to grab Liz as she went, not to harm her, but to pull her out of sight.

When Liz passed by where the woman was hiding she felt herself being grabbed and then found that she was being pulled out of sight. She didn't resist the pull when she realized what was being done.

"Are you daft, girl? What are you doing here?" She was an older woman with long, auburn hair, wrapped up in a cloak and with an urgent look on her face.

"I want to help you," Liz told her.

"They'll kill you," she warned. "You know the decree that any follower of Mary, Queen of Scots will hang." Mary, Queen of Scots, was not happy with her plans being ruined by a girl.

Liz nodded, "I know," she said softly, now she just had to figure out how she was going to do this.

"They won't know who to track if we separate. It is your life on the line, but I will not stop you from pledging it to me."

"Alright," Liz nodded, she wasn't sure if splitting up was the best option but at least it was an option.

Queen Mary darted off in one direction. The guards didn't see her. They did, however, see Liz and followed her, thinking she was their target.

It's only a simulation Liz had to remind herself before she ran off in the opposite direction.

The guards followed her for as far as they could go in the dark, before they were recalled. This would be their heads, but it was about as good as breaking their backs falling over in the dark.

The Doctor appeared near Liz a moment later, the simulation paused. "Congratulations, you just saved the life of Mary, Queen of Scots. Problem was she was supposed to die so she wouldn't assassinate Queen Elizabeth the First and then kill off Shakespeare because she didn't like what he had to say about her. Changed the whole course of history after that without Shakespeare. They burned his work too, see, lost to humanity forever. Queen Mary's survival set off a chain of events that left Western civilization stunted. Asia did fine enough, but it's a very different world now."

Liz winced a little when he said that, "I see..." she said softly.

"Don't feel bad. Just be aware that if you're ever in a situation where you can change something, it's not always the right thing to do."
