History in Living Colour - Friday, Period 3 (Week 2)

"Okay!" the Doctor said, bounding into the room when the students had gathered. "No time for chatting, let's get to it. Get to what you might ask? If you are, you didn't read your syllabus! Ask Peyton or Dick for one if you missed out. They're you're TAs and in case you've forgotten, I'm the Doctor."

There were three doors in the room. "Pick a door, any door! Well, except the one leading out of the Danger Shop. One of these three doors, which will lead you to a turning point in history. This week is all about not messing with the turning points, the important stuff, the moments in history that make today the way it is. We're going to learn by doing the wrong thing. Do whatever comes naturally to you once you're on the other side of the door. When you're done, we'll talk about what happened as a result of your actions.

We're all a part of history in some way, shape or form, and there's a lot you can get away with when you're outside of your home time period - by the way, time travel happens, get used to it - but there are some things you should never tamper with. You'll see why. Or, if you read a lot of alternate history fiction, you'll already know. Go on, pick a door." He nodded towards the doors, then commented quietly to himself, "guess we did have time for chatting after all."

Door 1

It's a very normal-looking door. Behind the door is a dark part of a city. There doesn't seem to be anyone around, except for a fellow in a cloak who just ran off. You're a bit busy to rush off after him, and he's gone anyway, because the building he just left is on fire!

Warren was good with fire, really. And a year of superhero classes at Sky High had worked one important thing into his brain.

Save the Citizen.

With absolutely no regard for the flames that were starting to lick up from the building, Warren made his way inside, looking for survivors or people who might be trapped.

So what if he altered history? It was just the Danger Shop, anyhow.

Bumblebee took note of the man, but his first concern was for the fire - there might be humans in there, and though it was a simulation he had no desire to leave even a fictional person to the flames if he could help it. He moved towards the building, scanners alert for signs of humans.

This one looks normal too, but it's a bit darker. On the other side, you can see two men in uniform guarding the front of a large building. They're not the only guards, but the ones in sight. You can see what they don't - a woman, looking worse for wear, is sneaking out.

After some thought Liz selected the second door and walked through, she glanced around eying the building and then noticed the woman sneaking out.

She glanced around, the movement of the woman catching her attention.

Inara debated for a moment, unable to choose how she could be of best help for the woman. Ultimately, she decided that distracting the guards might not be the best choice, since she didn't want to draw their attention to either of them, and crept as carefully and quietly as she could to a point she thought would intersect with the woman's path of escape.

Choosing the second door, Amber noticed the guards first, then the woman.

Jen finally decided on Door #2, a decision facilitated by the time-honored and very official police deductive process (no, really) of Eeny Meeny Miney Mo.

Old habits and all -- she waited outside the door for several moments, listening for any telltale sounds, before opening it and entering cautiously.

Oh, look, woman in peril. Possibly. Maybe it was a decoy? Jen buttoned her black leather jacket up as best she could over her bright pink shirt and looked around for a hiding spot from which to observe before she made a move.

Robin looked at the doors and said "Eenie, meenie, miney Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp and Joe." His finger rested on door number two.

He didn't know what to make of the situation. So he decided to ask one of the guards. "Excuse me, what is this place?" He tried to keep the woman in his peripheral vision.

Sam went through the second door and caught sight of the woman leaving. On the one hand, sneaking out was suspicious, but on the other, the Winchesters had done enough breaking and entering for him to know that sneaking around wasn't always a bad thing, so he wasn't going to assume until he saw more.

Dean mentally did a eennie meanie miinie moe and ended up on door two. He went through the door and looked around, trying to figure out what was going on.

For the moment he hung back, not sure whether he should be helping the woman keep under the radar or no.

What he needed was more information.

Door 3

Door 3 looks like the other two for the most part. Behind it, however, you find yourself in a tunnel. Off to one end, there's a fellow with a wheelbarrow full of what could very well be explosives. But you can hear something he can't - the sound of voices. Whispered, but very much not the friends of the guy with the wheelbarrow.

Gwen eyed the man with the wheelbarrow suspiciously, edging closer to the other voices to try and catch what they were saying.
