Hunting 101 - Class 2 (Tuesday period 5)

When students entered the Danger Shop they found themselves standing outside a large slightly rundown house. John was waiting for them, leaning comfortably against the side of an old impala. Beside him was a table, with the sign in sheet as well as another list of names paired up. It was also piled high with knapsacks.

"Welcome to our first practical class," John greeted them with a smile. "This is where we find out how well you apply what you've learned so far. Behind me is Elrod Manor. It's haunted by the ghost of a woman who was named Cassandra Elrod. She was killed by her husband Mark Elrod, who happened to be a serial killer. The legend goes that she found some rather grisly evidence of his activities and to keep her quiet he killed her and hid her body in the house.

"Since then her ghost has been seen countless times by many different people. They describe a very beautiful but sad woman who has appeared throughout the house but always disappeared at the end of the hallway on the second floor. There's also been an unusual number of accidents resulting in injury or death have occurred here. All of the victims have been married men. Those that have survived the attack describe a woman with features more horrific than beautiful."

He looked around at his students. "You're assignment is to lay her ghost to rest. Each of you will get one of this knapsacks that have everything in them that you should need to accomplish that. You'll work in pairs and each pair will go into the house in turn. As none of you are, to the best of my knowledge, married men, you should be relatively safe unless you antagonise her. My advice?" He smiled slightly. "Don't."

"Please pick up a knapsack and check the list to see who you are paired with and we'll get started."

When the students look inside the knapsacks they will find a flashlight, an EMF meter, an Infrared Thermal Scanner, a container of salt, lighter fluid and matches.

The list of pairings is as follows:

Buffy Summers, Yurika Dōjima
Blysse Norwood, Lion-o
Helen Haras-Uquara, Hannibal King
Jack Burton, Johnny Storm
Lois Lane, Michael Guerin
Momoko Akatsutsumi, Romeo Montague
Wendy Watson, Anja Creed

When everyone had got their equipment and found their assigned partners. John grinned at them wolfishly. "So, who's first?"

[ooc: wait for ocd's are up. Have at it!]

"Books," he said vaguely, shrugging. "Television. Things like that."

She tilted her head, looking at him curiously, not quite sure if she believed that was all there was to it. But she just shrugged herself and let it go. "Interesting," she said. "So... shall we check out all the rooms just to be thorough or head straight to the place where she's supposed to disappear?"

"I'm good either way," he said. "Checking each room is good for experience but it'll take longer."

She shrugged. "I don't have anywhere else to be at the moment so why not start at the far end and work our way down?"

"Or...maybe we follow that thing," Hannibal said, blinking at the sudden liveliness of the tool.

"Oh, I think we follow it," Helen said with a smile. She could feel excitement and nervousness building as she headed slowly down the hall, watching the meter carefully.

"It'd be the smart thing to do," Hannibal agreed, following behind her and keeping his eyes moving.

Dōjima looked down the hallway suspiciously. "I think this is where the heroines split up in the movies," she said slowly, "but that always ends badly. I vote we stick together."

"Yeah, I'm already wearing bad shoes for this. I'm an ankle twist away from getting axe murdered," Buffy said, realizing how that sounded. "By a ghost." Sure she was. Really. "Besides, only one EMthingie."

"At least we look good while getting chased by axe-wielding homicidal ghosts?" Dōjima suggested, looking at her own impractical shoes. "Wait, she only kills boys, we'll be fine. I bet half the reason she's so cranky is they never call her after the second date."

She swung the EMF meter back towards the end of the hallway to check the reading. "You have got to be kidding," Dōjima complained. "Why couldn't she just be in the foyer?"

"I think she's punishing us for the shoes. Flats next week," Buffy said, starting down the hall.

"If you can run in heels, you can run in anything," Dōjima pointed out as she followed Buffy, pausing by each door to peek in the rooms. "Really, we're just training for emergencies. You can't always plan when ghosts or demons or whatever are going to pop up."

"Oh, look, there's one," Buffy said, nodding towards the figure. "Nice timing."

Someday she's learn not to quip at the undead.

Okay, no, no she wouldn't.

At random, Romeo jerked the door to the closest room open. "Maybe she's in here?"
heromaniac: (hello door)

Okay. If Romeo could do it, so could she. Momoko took a breath and stepped to the next door. She opened it slowly and peeked into the room to see if there was anything unusual. "Or, maybe in here? Hello?"

He tiptoed closer to her. "Hello?" he echoed, running his flashlight's beam, over the furniture in the room. "And again I see nothing. Perhaps there's no ghost."

He waved the EMF meter around a bit, just to check.
heromaniac: (uh wtf)

Re: Second floor

[personal profile] heromaniac 2008-09-10 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Oooh! Maybe it really was the husband still being all serial killer-y and just blaming it on a ghost?" She ran her flashlight along the floorboards of the room, looking for... she didn't know what. Did ghosts in this world leave footprints? Swooshmarks in the dust, maybe?
withoutverona: (not a hero)

Re: Second floor

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-09-10 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Or perhaps the ghost has tired of waiting for housekeeping, and moved on," Romeo said. "We may as well finish this floor, though."

He took a step further down the hallway, EMF firmly pointed ahead of him.
heromaniac: (uh wtf)

"Uhm. You know? In Mr Deadpool's class you smiled happy smiles a lot more." She looked over at his EMF meter. "Oh, man. That means ghost over there, right?"
