Hunting 101 - Class 2 (Tuesday period 5)

When students entered the Danger Shop they found themselves standing outside a large slightly rundown house. John was waiting for them, leaning comfortably against the side of an old impala. Beside him was a table, with the sign in sheet as well as another list of names paired up. It was also piled high with knapsacks.

"Welcome to our first practical class," John greeted them with a smile. "This is where we find out how well you apply what you've learned so far. Behind me is Elrod Manor. It's haunted by the ghost of a woman who was named Cassandra Elrod. She was killed by her husband Mark Elrod, who happened to be a serial killer. The legend goes that she found some rather grisly evidence of his activities and to keep her quiet he killed her and hid her body in the house.

"Since then her ghost has been seen countless times by many different people. They describe a very beautiful but sad woman who has appeared throughout the house but always disappeared at the end of the hallway on the second floor. There's also been an unusual number of accidents resulting in injury or death have occurred here. All of the victims have been married men. Those that have survived the attack describe a woman with features more horrific than beautiful."

He looked around at his students. "You're assignment is to lay her ghost to rest. Each of you will get one of this knapsacks that have everything in them that you should need to accomplish that. You'll work in pairs and each pair will go into the house in turn. As none of you are, to the best of my knowledge, married men, you should be relatively safe unless you antagonise her. My advice?" He smiled slightly. "Don't."

"Please pick up a knapsack and check the list to see who you are paired with and we'll get started."

When the students look inside the knapsacks they will find a flashlight, an EMF meter, an Infrared Thermal Scanner, a container of salt, lighter fluid and matches.

The list of pairings is as follows:

Buffy Summers, Yurika Dōjima
Blysse Norwood, Lion-o
Helen Haras-Uquara, Hannibal King
Jack Burton, Johnny Storm
Lois Lane, Michael Guerin
Momoko Akatsutsumi, Romeo Montague
Wendy Watson, Anja Creed

When everyone had got their equipment and found their assigned partners. John grinned at them wolfishly. "So, who's first?"

[ooc: wait for ocd's are up. Have at it!]

Romeo looked blank. Probably they should have discussed a plan, yes. "I ... I don't know," he admitted. "Throw salt and matches at her? I'm entirely out of my depth." Why couldn't Professor Winchester have given him a gun? He understood those.

Something else she'd said was making him strain to remember the lecture. "Wait, what about guys?"

"There's supposed to have been a bunch of accidents and injuries and stuff that are related to her ghost, I guess, or they're just blaming them on her since she's here. And all of the victims have been men. Well, married men, so I guess it kinda makes sense that she'd be blamed since her husband was a serial murder who killed her." Momoko paused, then raised her hand excitedly.

"Oh! In my world, some people who die with a grudge or an unfulfilled deed can become ghosts! If you help them get rid of it, they go away!"

Oh. That might be a problem.

"You may have gotten a bad partner for this, I fear," he told her. "I was married."

"I can only hope she doesn't know that."
heromaniac: (what?)

Momoko's jaw dropped. He was MARRIED?

"You're MARRIED? Then she WAS interested in you? Okay. okay. Let's see." Momoko thought for a moment. "We need to get rid of the ghost, so that means following it. If we follow it, you..."

She moved the flashlight to look down at his hands. "Are you wearing a ring? I don't generally look for that on a guy at school. But if you are, or if she heard us just now, then yeah we should watch our steps extra carefully now."

"Was," he repeated, holding his unadorned fingers for her to see. He'd never had a ring, and Juliet's had sat untouched in his dresser for months. "She's ... wherever the ghost is, or the other dead, I suppose."

Which just made the exercise so much cheerier, really.

"I suppose we follow it, and trust Professor Winchester will stop it if things get bad."

Momoko bowed, flustered. "Ah. Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to... uh. Wow. This must be a terrible class for you, then. No wonder you're not smiling right. Uhm. Sorry! Maybe she'll leave you alone, then?" She straightened slowly and held out the salt.

"I'll go first from now on, you take this just in case. And we be careful!"
