"The branch is sturdy enough for two," Warren ventured, scooting over a little to make room. "For as much as I'm not a fan of the crowd down there, I don't mind the company, if you want to join me."

She climbed up easily and settled in beside him, her body touching his on the branch. "I rather like your company."

"Yeah?" Casanova, Warren was not. In fact, the proximity that Helen was in was something on the distracting side. A little. Words were difficult when they were shoulder to shoulder, for whatever reason.

Weird, that.

"Then we're both in good company, huh? How have you been, anyhow? Keeping busy?"

She shrugged. "I suppose. Haven't done much that was interesting since classes let out. Missed seeing you."

Kissed Hannibal. Somehow she thought that was information best not to share. Not that she saw a problem with kissing Hannibal or anyone else or doing, well... anything else, but...

Warren was different.

"It has been a while, hasn't it? We should go out sometime again. Do something. Coffee or Chinese food, maybe."

Warren really was different. Not so much the kind of guy to pass out his kisses or virginity.

But coffee? Coffee was good.

"I'd like that," she said with a smile. "Maybe this Chinese? I know you know about that. I've never tried it, but you could tell me what to try."

Helen was different, too. She had no understanding of the concept of dates or relationships because of where she'd been raised. She'd talked two priests into sex to see what it was like and had found it rather unpleasant - short, messy, a bit painful, though apparently quite pleasurable for the men. Alec had showed her it could be incredibly pleasant and left her quite curious to experiment more, but without any concept of the social mores around it.

But Warren... she was drawn to him. And she liked spending time with him and he made her feel... comfortable. And oh, she wanted him to think well of her!
