And over here was another section of tables and chairs, still close to the food so no one accidentally starved while trying to avoid the masses.

Just when Jaina thought she'd had all the shock she was going to this newbie day... She wandered over, knowing she looked surprised when she said, "Tahiri?"

Honestly, after the shuttle trip she should have been expecting this by now.

"Oh, flaming womp-rats, Jaina? When did you get here?"

"Last year," she answered. Jaina'd been through enough of these meetings to realize right away it wasn't her Tahiri, which led to the follow-up. "This is going to be a weird question, but when are you from?"

Not that weird a question, not after meeting Ben. "I just saw you on Hapes," Tahiri said. "After Myrkr." She wasn't going to be more specific than that, but she didn't think she needed to be -- assuming this Jaina had been there already, of course.

Jaina wasn't sure whether or not to be relieved at that. On one hand, it meant she didn't need to tiptoe around that. On the other, there were happier memories. "I just got back from there," she admitted. "A couple weeks ago."

"But . . ." And now Tahiri was confused. Again. "You said you've been here a year?"

"I know. This place is one giant lesson in alternate realities," she explained. "In mine, I've been here since after Dubrillion. There are a few of us wandering around here from different points in time."

"There are more? I met Ben." Tahiri lowered her voice. "And driving the shuttle, was that really -- ?"

She'd been trying not to think about that one too hard.

"Yeah," Jaina nodded. "The full story isn't really common knowledge around here, but that's him all right. Uncle Luke graduated from here in May, too."

"Master Skywalker?" The thought of Luke Skywalker as a teenager, any and all Holonet archives aside, was just a little disconcerting. Just a little, as in Tahiri gaped for several moments. "This is starting to make a little more sense now. Maybe."

Jaina raised her eyebrows. "Really?"

"Well, I couldn't figure out why they'd send me here," Tahiri explained. "But if it worked for Master Skywalker . . ."

"It might have been a different reality," she pointed out. "But he seemed to do pretty good here. Why did they send you here?"

"They said I'd be safe here, but I get the feeling they might be kind of worried about how I'd get, you know, after." Never mind how Jaina had reacted -- Tahiri hadn't exactly been paying attention to that anyhow. And there was the different realities thing, again. "Are we all different versions of ourselves here?"

"I think there are probably differences between the universes," Jaina said, not thinking too hard on what Ben had told her. "But if we both had Myrkr, I don't know how different ours are. Aside from me being here all this time."

"And me not having heard about it until now." Myrkr was probably not the best subject for either of them to dwell on, all things considered. "Is the stuff they teach here useful for back home?"

"I've had no problem with it. I've had classes on destiny and flight this summer, so it's definitely useful," she said. "Do you know what you have yet?"

"Diplomacy, Relationship, and Tactics," Tahiri said, "and Ethics. I don't know who's teaching them, though. It didn't say."

There was probably a reason for that.

"Diplomacy's Lady Atreides. I've got that one too. Ethics would be none other than my grandfather," she said. "Sorry."

"Oh, good, at least someone I know in one of my -- wait, wait, wait," Tahiri blurted out. "Him? Teaching Ethics?"

"I took the class ironically," Jaina nodded. "Gotta admit, he adds a different perspective."

"This is so vaping weird," Tahiri declared. "All of it. Anything I should know about taking that class?"

Jaina thought about it. "Don't get caught not listening, mostly. I yelled a lot in that class, but I think as long as you try you'll be fine."

Tahiri managed a slight chuckle. "Why can I picture that somehow?"

"He made me mad," she explained, thinking this was a perfectly good reason. Like it took much to piss Jaina off.
