Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

And over here was another section of tables and chairs, still close to the food so no one accidentally starved while trying to avoid the masses.

It took a little bit of courage, since he knew that the new kids would probably stare at him, but Lion-o was there at the picnic.

Robin didn't stare. Humanoid cat? Nothing unusual to a Muppet Frog. "Hi there!"

"Hi!" said Lion-o. "Are you a new student?"

"Actually no, I was here last year, but I had to go home for the summer. How about you?"

"I got here at the start of the summer," said Lion-o. "I've met some nice people, but I haven't gotten out much. People seem to think I'm going to eat them or something."

"They do? That's weird. Though I did meet one girl last summer who was scared of me."

"Somebody asked if I eat people, a squirrel heard it, it got onto the radio, and now everyone seems a little freaked out," said Lion-o. "But it did make it that much easier to meet the really nice people, because they'll still talk to me anyway. I know a girl named Turtle who offered to kick people for me, but she's not really a turtle. Well, actually, she did turn into a turtle, but she changed back."

"Turtle turned into a turtle?" Robin giggled.

"Uh huh. There was a lot of that stuff happening a few weeks ago," said Lion-o. "I turned into a pony at the beginning of the summer, but I didn't like it very much."

"That happens fairly often around here." Robin said. "I'm not sure why."

"It's kind of weird, but then again, we don't have islands that move from place to place back home on Thundera," said Lion-o. "It gave me some really fun stories to share with the Thunderkittens."

"So you're from a different planet then?"

"Yeah, I'm from a planet called Thundera that's really far away," said Lion-o. "We have lots of volcanoes and my dad is the Lord of the Thundercats."

It was probably a pretty good indication of Lola's personality that by this point in the picnic, all she had to say to the cat-faced kid was "We have the same hair."

"Oh wow, we do! But I bet we don't have the same hands," said Lion-o, holding one of his out so Lola could see. Instead of normal human fingernails, he had sharp claws that came to a point at the end.

Lola's eyes went wide for a moment, and she held up her own hands, nails bitten down and bearing chipping polish. "Nein, we do not. You are part cat, ja?"

"I guess you could say that," said Lion-o. "But honestly, until I got here, I'd never seen humans or cats. Everyone on my planet is like this. Oh, I'm Lion-o, son of Claudus, Lord of the Thundercats. Are you new?"

A whole cat planet. Well, that wasn't any weirder than some things she'd heard of, today.

"Ja. I am Lola Rennt. Lord of . . . well, just me."

"It's nice to meet you, Lola," said Lion-o. "I've been here since the beginning of the summer. It's been interesting. I have a roommate named Toby who has trouble keeping his shirts."

"I met a boy who said shirtlessness was . . . encouraged?"

"I think they always takes their shirts off at the picnic, but this is only the second time I've gone to one," said Lion-o. "But my roommate has trouble keeping his shirt on a regular day. Snarf is always worried that he'll catch cold."

Lola tilted her head. "Who is Snarf?"

Lion-o looked a little embarrassed. "He's my, uh, companion," he said, not wanting to admit that he still had a nanny. "He's not here, though. He decided to stay back in the dorms and clean. He likes cleaning stuff."

"Ah." Lola wasn't sure exactly what to make of a cat-boy's companion who liked to clean things. "Well, maybe I will meet him, some time."

"Maybe you will," said Lion-o. "We're on the third floor in room 310. How about you?"
