He blinked, as though that hadn't actually occurred to him. "I guess that's possible," he said slowly, though not entirely happily. "I don't think the girls around here would put up with that kind of crap going on though."

"Some of them. Not as many as the guys, I'll concede." He sighed. "This place is pretty open-minded, but not everyone's used to that."

Lola nodded. "Then I think I will wait. I do not want to shock the other new students. They must already meet robots and aliens and things."

He grinned again. "Yeah, there's enough to get used to already without adding exhibitionism to your list," he said.

He laughed. "I'd say I love hearing that, but I guess it wouldn't be very modest of me."

"You are modest, too?" Lola looked like she probably didn't believe that. "Why is there not some girl or boy following you or hanging onto you?"

"I'm amazingly modest," Alec said, grinning at his own exaggeration. "And I don't try to encourage slavish devotion or anything, really. But I'm always willing to try new things."

Lola considered that, trying to work out what "slavish devotion" meant. She felt she could guess.
