Anemone retreated from the hubbub of the crowds with a scowl. A year. Just over a year, and she still got freaked out by the numbers of people at the picnic.

Holding tightly to Gulliver, she took refuge under one of the large trees to glare at anyone that came too close.

Oh, hey. It was that sadistic girl who liked strange fortune cookie fortunes.

Maybe Warren would socialize with her. A little. Kinda.

"Fewer people actually up the tree," he called down, patting a spot on the branch he was sitting on.

"That's because most people are too afraid of falling," she shot back, before actually looking up to see who it was. "Oh. You. Hey."

Warren gave a bit of a nod in greeting, the slightest of bemused smirks on his lips.

"Don't tell me you're afraid of heights," he replied in his usual, somewhat dry tone. "Guess that means I'm going to have to sit up here throwing acorns at the freshmen and newbies all on my own."

That got a sharp peal of laughter. "I once jumped out of my cockpit while in the stratosphere," she said, placing Gulliver on the ground so she could climb up after him. "Heights are not an issue."

Warren chuckled and scooted down a little farther on his branch to make room.

"Now that's a long drop," he mused, looking down at the picnic. Blegh, people. "You're a pilot, then?"

"Uh-huh." Anemone swung her legs, following his gaze. How could they all herd together like that? "Not so much here, it's all limited to classes, which is kinda dumb. Not to mention booooooooooring."

"The closest I've ever been to flying was the school bus back home," Warren mused, resisting the urge to pluck a stick and light it. "Maybe I should have taken that flying class, this semester."

"School bus?" Anemone wrinkled her nose in confusion. "Like, the yellow things? Those can fly?"

"Ours could," Warren replied with a shrug. "I wouldn't try to drive one off a cliff or anything to test out the rest, though."

There was a pause for consideration.

"Well. Maybe here. If you could find one. Fandom seems almost weird enough for that sort of thing."

"Huh." Anemone considered it for another moment before shrugging. "If I find one here, maybe I'll ask it. A flying bus might be kinda neat."

"Couldn't hurt," Warren mused. He wasn't going to mention that buses typically didn't answer questions when asked. Once again, he was on Fandom Island. And anyhow, he had seen weirder back home. "So, come up with any good fortune cookie fortunes yet?"

"Always a fan of 'Look again' and 'You were wrong'," she answered, taking a moment to try and peg a random student in the head with a twig. Damn. Missed. "Or taking fortunes and scrawling 'in bed' under every single one. Lazy, yes. But effective."

"Effective," Warren agreed, musing. "I'm a fan of ones like 'That wasn't pork,' myself. But they really only work well if they follow up a meal."

"True. 'She knows you're lying' also works great, because everyone knows at least one girl, and odds are they've lied once." Anemone stretched out to lay along the branch. "I just like watching the panic."

"We're going to have to do that, sometime," Warren decided. "Just get a bunch of fortune cookies, Fill them with fortunes that'll really mess with people's heads, take them to a picnic or something, and hand them out."

What? It would be fun.
