Tony's first airplane ride wasn't as interesting than he'd hoped. It was rather like riding the bus, only with less space and more pretzels. Although "boring" was probably the way to go when it came to air travel.

He'd spent a bad half hour in Customs after his flight had landed. They'd pulled him from line and fingerprinted him and for a bit he was afraid he'd be barred from entering the US. But they apparently realized he was neither a drug dealer nor a terrorist and let him through.

He retrieved his oversized duffle from the baggage claim and followed the instructions on the crumpled printout of an email from the school. He took a quick detour to buy a horribly overpriced breakfast sandwich with his shiny new American money. (Dollar bills? What was wrong with coins?) He made a wrong turn on the way back, but he managed to orient himself and find his way to the Portalocity terminal.

A piece of paper tacked on the wall in one corner of the room said "Fandom High." Looked like he was in the right place. He sat down on a bench under the sign, duffle near his feet, and clutched his laptop case as if it might walk away. (It wouldn't, would it? Arra would've warned him if that was a possibility.) It seemed he was the first to arrive. Not surprising, since he'd taken the red eye out of Vancouver. Late-night flights made it easier to say goodbyes to vampire ex-boyfriends.

Hurley looked around, a little dazed.

He was noticing the little things that didn't quite gel with, well, 1994.

Poor guy.

Ben waved. "Looking for Fandom?"

Hurley nodded. "Yeah," he said. "This where we're supposed to wait?"

"Hope so, or we're all going to be left behind," Ben said with a smile, his accent getting a little more noticeable.

"That would be bad," Hurley said. "Hi. I'm, uhhh, Hurley."

"Ben," Ben replied. "Are you from this planet?"

"Yeah," Hurley said. "I... you have to ask?"

[ooc: Argh, so sorry. Con stuff, etcetera, I lost track of this. My humblest of apologies.]

Ben nodded. "Some of us aren't exactly from around here, it seems."

"Oh," Hurley said. "...I am. At least. I think."

"You think?" Ben repeated.

"Well, like. There's little things different," Hurley said. "Like... I dunno. It's not exactly like back home. And I don't think that's just cause of changing coasts."

"I can't really help you," Ben said, his ~~British~~ Coruscanti accent getting even stronger. "I'm not from here either."

"Oh yeah?" Hurley said. "Where are you from, dude?"

"A place called Coruscant," Ben said. "Really, really far away."

"Cool," Hurley said. "I'm just from California. I guess it's not that far away, really."

"What's California like?" Ben asked.

"Like, warm, mainly? The weather's really nice. Beaches, palm trees, that sort of thing," Hurley said. "How about Coruscant? That place has a cool name."

"Not a lot of beaches or palm trees," --whatever those were--, "but a lot of people," Ben said. "Billions."

"Oh dude," Hurley said. "Wow. That's... wow."

"It's the capital," Ben explained. "Everyone comes through."

"Oh," Hurley said. "...Capital of what?"

"My galaxy?"

So much for blending in, Ben.

"Holy crap, you're from space," Hurley said. "That... dude, you have got to be kidding me."

"Sorry," Ben said. "At least I'm not little and green?"

"You know, that would actually help me believe the whole 'other galaxy' thing," Hurley said. "But... yeah. Dude. Wow."
