Destiny & Free Will, #7 [Period 1, Monday, August 18th]

The students should have gotten a handwaved notice to dress nicely and meet at the Causeway, where they were met by a large portal and a disgruntled looking Ghanima.

If you thought you heard her muttering nasty things in a variety of languages regarding "stupid brothers," "stupid Spacing Guild," "damned stubborn Naibs with more pride than sense," "crazy detectives," or "never taking Faith Lehane anywhere ever again," well, you might not be wrong.

"Right."  Reaching inside her coat, Ghanima retrieved a deck of the Dune Tarot and fanned the cards at them.  "Step right up, and ask me what today holds for you.  Through there -" she gestured at the portal with the cards,  " - is Monaco.  Home to some of the most wonderful casinos this Earth holds.  Your mission is to take the future I forsee, and try to beat it.  If I tell you that you are destined to win big, sit outside and give away money.  If I say you fail, go cheat the casino by whatever means you choose.  The one rule is not to get caught, because I am not paying for bail.  I want to see how many of you manage to flaunt destiny."

"After all," she grinned humorlessly, flipping up the Hanged Man with ease.  "Navigating the future is a family talent.  Who wants to try and beat the oracular Atreides?"

[OOC:  Please to be waiting for the OCD DONE!  Feel free to tag me ooc if there's a future you want Ghani to give your student!  Otherwise, it will be randomized.]

Savannah was paying attention, of course.

Gwen paid attention to the lecture. This looked interesting, especially since there weren't likely to be any cheats who insisted on the games being strip.

It was so short Romeo's attention had no chance to wander. He liked the idea of thwarting destiny.

Hinata listened quietly, and wondered just how accurate a prediction could be.

Jen's interest was piqued by this whole thing; given how many times she'd changed her own future by changing the past, and that with recorded history to back up what had ended up not happening, she figured a prediction couldn't be that much less accurate.

Helen was rather intrigued by this idea.

John wasn't as interested in the opportunity to cheat at a casino as he normally would have been. He spent most of the lecture trying not to look around for a certain someone who may or may not have been there.

Jaina was there, but she did sort of have a few reasons to be a little distant today.

Reno was all about cheating fate.

When there wasn't a dare involved.

"Okay. What do I gotta not do?"

Romeo hoped this went better than his last experience with tarot cards.

"So what do the cards foresee in my case?"

Hinata had to admit that she didn't mind this idea though. It would be nice, rather, to deliberately thwart destiny.

"A-And w-what is m-my a-apparent future, please?"

Jen drew a slow breath and stepped forward. "As they say at the blackjack table, hit me."

Beat.

"Ma'am."

Helen politely waited her turn. "And what do the cards say for me?" she asked curiously.

"Right," Gwen said. "If this involves water balloons, I'm going to expect a fix."

Sam liked the sound of this quite a lot for once.

"What do the cards say for me?" he asked.

Reno was going to just walk up to the first Casino he saw. Walk up to it. And stare it down.

And then take a seat on the front steps.

Loss of money and unwise investments. Bah. He wouldn't roll a single die today or touch another card. Nope. Not losing a penny. Not him.

He was sitting in front of a casino in Monaco. Doing nothing.

This sucked. He was going to go inside and see about cheating at poker, instead.

Reno didn't look too smug when he walked up to Ghanima after class. He hadn't made any great amount of money attempting to cheat at poker, but he hadn't lost and he hadn't been caught, either.

He was a Turk, dammit.

"Monaco," he mused. "Another place name on a growin' list of places on this world I'm gonna have to visit again, yo."

It was like the Gold Saucer of wherever-on-Earth they were. He approved.
