Library [15.08]

Karal arrived early this morning, got the library opened up, and settled behind the counter to think while Altra curled up on the counter and Evey went to wander through the stacks.

At irregular intervals, there would be a click of hooves, a polite little deer cough, and Altra would raise his head so Karal could see Evey peering around the end of a shelf, waiting for Karal to come and get a book down for her.

It was the most adorable thing Karal had ever seen, but he carefully didn't let it show. Somehow, he didn't think Evey would appreciate it.

Before Work

He walked in in the morning, as per usual, with a bag of things. There were cupcakes (http://community.livejournal.com/food_porn/4793122.html#cutid1) for dessert for Karal, some hibiscus for Evey, a small bag of tuna for the kitten, a bowl of the meat for Altra, and lastly a vegetable soup (http://community.livejournal.com/oohyum/12931.html#cutid1) for Karal's actual meal. Along with it, he'd brought a small jar of lavender lemonade to give his brother something to drink since the cupcakes were rather rich.

"Morning," he said as he put the bag down and smiled at the assembled. He was in a surprisingly good mood today.

"Good morning, Liir," Karal replied as Altra lifted his head. "You seem to be in a good mood this morning." He smiled. "And it looks as if you've brought us a feast!"

"A little something for everyone," he said with a faint smile. "Though I don't see the kitten. Has she been returned to her owner?"

He looked around before nodding to Altra.

"I suppose that means more for you."

"Vashti's asleep on my bed, she's Evey's kitten," he explained. "Actually, she's managing to sleep on the entire bed. I don't know how but she manages to take up the entire space when she stretches out!"

:I'll make sure it doesn't go to waste,: Altra promised, adopting a noble and self-sacrificing manner.

Liir grinned at Altra.

"Much obliged, Altra."

Then he turned to Karal, blocking out certain little voices complaining about her dollies and that he'd best sleep on the ground. Instead, he kept smiling.

"And yes, I'm in a rather good mood. Mostly as I've not found any reason not to be."

"Which is the best reason to be happy," Karal said with another smile. "It's good to see you smiling."

"I was due it," he insisted.

"And yourself? I see Evey's still a deer..."

"You were, and she is." He sighed a little, but smiled over at Evey. "We're getting used to it, and she's learned to turn the pages herself, so it's not so bad. I hope she turns back soon."

"I'm sure she does too," he said. "There's some hibiscus in there for her, if she'd like. It makes a good tisane."

"Moreso even than me, I'm sure." Evey walked over to stand next to Karal and nodded. "Thank you, Liir. I'll make some up this evening. And I read that deer like blueberries, so I'll get some of those, as well."

He nodded.

"I'm off to work for the moment, though," and he snapped out a quick salute.

"I'll see you sometime this weekend or something. And good luck turning back, Evey!"

At which point he made his exit.
