Aly had set up the main campfire with an assortment of bombs running the field from the classic bombs used in movies to less sophisticated devices.

She waited for everyone to arrive then started speaking. "The last few classes, we've talked about how to blow things up. Which is, admittedly, a lot of fun and also what the class is about. Today, however, we're going to talk about what happens when you don't want the bomb to go off. Disabling explosives is a hugely dangerous task, and in general, it's something you want to call in an expert to deal with." She grinned. "But really if there's one thing Fandom teaches you it's that when you need an expert, one usually can't be found. So today we - and by we, I mean you - are going to work on disarming explosive devices that won't cause quite so much agony is you get it wrong."

Gesturing to the assortment of bombs, she started discussing bomb disposal techniques including the use of a pigstick ~~because I love this word~~ and the ever-popular cutting of the correctly coloured wires.

"Now the trick here is that these devices aren't bombs. But if they are disengaged incorrectly, they will explode." She grinned. "I hope you wore clothes that can get paint on them. If not -" she pointed to a box "-there are some lovely and very fashionable smocks to put on."

"If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Otherwise, pair up and have fun."

Ichigo glanced at the smocks again and wrinkled his nose. "I like the way you think," he decided.

"Thank you, I like it too," Ella smiled. "Have you ever done anything at all like this before?"

He considered the bomb in front of him for a moment, not that he needed to think of an answer.

"I can't say that I have," he said, shooting her a look. "Just don't get mad at me if I screw this thing up," he joked, though there was a very high chance that he just might.

"What if you do something that's worth getting mad about?" Ella queried.

She knelt to run her fingers along the wires. "So I guess we should just pick a color to cut and go with it."

"I think we should try to figure out which part is attached to what and what it does first," Ichigo commented. Though, even if he had paid attention to Aly's explanation, he had no idea how they were supposed to do that.

"Right," Ella said, drawing a breath. She had been paying attention, it just took concentration for her to understand and trace the paths of the wires. "The green one seems to go in over here, and the blue one goes in on the other side," she noted. "Could you come and look?"

He squatted beside her to have a good look at the device, tilting his head to try and figure it out. "So um... that thing could be ignition?"

"Why not?" Ella said airily. "I suppose if we aimed the, um, pigstick at that bit, it might disable the bomb."

"I doubt it can do harm even if it doesn't." Not that he really knew, but why would they use it if it could set the bomb off? Right?

He got to his feet and picked up the pigstick thing, studying it for a moment. "You want to do this?"

"I guess I could?" Ella offered. "It doesn't make much difference to me."

"Sure," he said easily, in favour of not screwing up. He held the pigstick out for her. "I wonder who named it."

"I don't know, it's not much like a pig at all," Ella declared. "Maybe it was a pig farmer who was terribly lonely for his former companions."

She turned it on and aimed a blast of water at the bomb, prepared to jump back if it went off.

"Are pigs scared of water?" he asked, eyeing the bomb warily but at least it didn't look like it was going to go off. Honestly, it didn't look much like anything.

"How do we know it worked?"

"Maybe? I haven't known a lot of pigs," Ella insisted.

She tilted her head, then lightly touched the bomb with a fingertip. "I have no idea. Should we ask Professor Aly?"

"Only the people variety," he said with a grin, tensing a little as she touched the bomb.

"Probably not? I mean, the teacher won't be there when we have to do it for real." He paused. "If. I mean, we should probably just dismantle it further?"

Ella flailed. She was happy with the nice, wet bomb that wasn't spewing paint all over her. "Can you do that part?" she asked. "I mean, it would be good for you to get the practice, too."

"I said if, I'm not planning on dismantling one any time soon," he did step forward to look further at the wet bomb. "So no touching any red wires."

"No red wires," Ella agreed. "Maybe green? Green seems like a safe color."

He paused. "Unless they want us to think that," he pointed, considering the blue one.

Ella paused, too. That was a good point. "So ... maybe cut the red, and leave the green? Or you could cut the yellow and leave everything else."

Yellow.

He glanced up at Ella for a moment. "Yellow's pretty harmless. You never hear about something blowing up when it's yellow." No, that didn't make much sense at all.

Ella didn't understand it either, no.

"I guess you don't," she said, omitting how she rarely heard about things blowing up at all.

"Okay. Yellow it is," Ichigo decided as he picked up the pliers. "Ready?"

"I suppose so," Ella nodded, stepping back and crossing her arms over her chest. She tried not to hop from nervousness.

Yellow. Yellow. Yellow. Maybe he should pick the green instead.

No, they picked yellow and Ichigo stood ready to jump back in case it did go wrong. With a look of utter concentration on his face, he carefully snapped the yellow wire and closed his eyes, expecting the worse.
