How to Blow Things Up: Week 4, Period 5

Aly had set up the main campfire with an assortment of bombs running the field from the classic bombs used in movies to less sophisticated devices. 

She waited for everyone to arrive then started speaking.  "The last few classes, we've talked about how to blow things up.  Which is, admittedly, a lot of fun and also what the class is about.  Today, however, we're going to talk about what happens when you don't want the bomb to go off.  Disabling explosives is a hugely dangerous task, and in general, it's something you want to call in an expert to deal with."  She grinned.  "But really if there's one thing Fandom teaches you it's that when you need an expert, one usually can't be found.  So today we - and by we, I mean you - are going to work on disarming explosive devices that won't cause quite so much agony is you get it wrong."

Gesturing to the assortment of bombs,  she started discussing bomb disposal techniques including the use of a pigstick because I love this word and the ever-popular cutting of the correctly coloured wires.

"Now the trick here is that these devices aren't bombs.  But if they are disengaged incorrectly, they will explode."  She grinned.  "I hope you wore clothes that can get paint on them.  If not -" she pointed to a box "-there are some lovely and very fashionable smocks to put on."

"If you have any questions, feel free to ask.  Otherwise, pair up and have fun."

Ella was listening very carefully. It was a lovely day and a lovely campfire, and she didn't want to take any unnecessary risks to either of them.

Agnes took very careful notes. As far as she was concerned, this was the most important class they'd had yet.

Karal was feeling far calmer about all of this, and he and Altra listened carefully to Aly, while Karal recorded everything she said.

Pair up with someone and disarm the bombs - What colour wire should be cut first? Should you try the pigstick?

As you're working, I'll ping into threads occasionally to mod your bombs. Because sometimes, you can do everything right and it still just blows up.

"Pride, I think. Clothes can be replaced," Ella decided. "And the smocks are really horrible."

"What about you? Pride or clothes?"

The bombs worried Agnes a little, and her hand went reflexively to her hat as she looked around for a partner. Not that she needed to feel it in order to know it was still there -- the corks-on-strings bobbing in front of her face were evidence enough.

"That's quite an interesting hat." Cimorene remarked as she joined Agnes.

"It was a lot LESS interesting last week," Agnes grumbled.

Still, the case could be made that a tall, pointy black hat was interesting enough regardless of whether it had corks dangling from its brim.

Karal donned his smock, much happier about the idea of stopping bombs from blowing up. "They don't seem to have one for you," he said to Altra.

The Firecat snorted. :If I wind up covered in paint, someone is going to regret that.:

Karal was careful not to laugh at the disgruntled tone, and looked through Altra's eyes for someone to pair up with.
