Escape Artistry: Week 3, Period 3 (Thurs. 07/24)

The Danger Shop was set up like the Salle. The main difference was the giant Satedan in the center of the room, going through a complicated practice routine with a bokutō blade. When they arrived, he stopped and approached the group with a feral smile, spinning the wooden sword in his hand as he spoke.

"Today we're sword fighting. If it's your first fight, there's a handout for you. First thing to know about sword fighting: keep your eyes straight ahead. Focus on the enemy. Never ever look away from your enemy. It shows weakness. Are you weak?" He stared down a couple students in particular as he paced the floor in front of them all. "Second thing: You’ve gotta anticipate the enemy's next move. Always be ready. I'll give you a minute to look at the papers." Ronon stepped away, preparing to instruct them on how this was going to go down.

Sokka swung the blade around a few times to get the feel of it, and then fenced an imaginary opponent for a bit -- he had plenty of panache, but no visible skill.

After a bit, he walked up to Ronan and tried to size him up. If he was going to have any chance at ALL, he'd need to rely on his smaller size and hope he was the faster of the two.

Ronon stared Sokka down. It wasn't likely his speed would help him, but if he wanted to run in little circles all day, Ronon wouldn't stop him. "We doin' this?"

Sokka stared back with eyes full of puppy-dog innocence that nevertheless didn't leave Ronon for even a second. "No, I thought I'd swing my sword around like an idiot for a little while longer, and then we'd call it a day," he replied.

And he started to do just that -- but then pulled the sword out of its grandiose swing into a semi-controlled slice at Ronan's shoulder.

His eyes focused and following Sokka, Ronon was prepared for his attack, raising his shoulder and meeting Sokka's blade with his own before moving to push forward.

Still on the offensive, Sokka tried to side-step Ronon and move past him, to get an attack in on the man's back or side. Whether it worked or not, the move would unfortunately leave him off-balance.

It was a valiant effort, but as he stepped and spun around to block the blow with his wooden blade, Ronon also reached out to shove Sokka with his free hand.

And that would be Sokka falling on his ass. "AAAAGH!"

Thankfully, he kept his grip on his sword, and he'd be back on his feet in no time, but for the moment he just flailed on the ground for a bit.

Ronon watched him flail. "'Least you kept your sword," he offered Sokka a hand to get up.

Sokka got his feet under him and did a dive-roll past the hand, trying to flail at Ronon's ankles with the sword on his way past. "Kept my head, too," he gasped.
