Mike was feeling a bit nostalgic today, so he reset the Danger Room simulation to the familiar Club Mystique at the original Montecito casino, as it had looked during the Las Vegas Centennial. "A few years ago, my aunt Gladys Knight performed in Las Vegas to celebrate the city's 100th birthday, and I had the honor of being a member of her back-up group," said Mike. "Now, I couldn't get Aunt Gladys out here today, but I thought we'd talk about a musical genre that is near and dear to my heart: R&B. Like most major music genres, you'll get different sub-sets such as contemporary R&B, soul, funk, and even reggae." As he spoke, Mike passed out a few song catalogs for the students to look through.

"As karaoke singers, the type of R&B songs you'll hear most often are either the Motown classics, which includes hits from the '50s and '60s, or contemporary, which includes R&B hits after the end of the disco era. Today, your task is to perform a song from somewhere in the R&B spectrum. As for myself, I'm going to do one my favorite Gladys Knight song, 'You're The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me.'"

Amber smiled. "That's so cute! He only came after you because he thought you were a model? What a guys way to think, god. But you must have done somethin' right to capture his heart, yah? I'm a little envious of that."

Turtle's head tilted a little at that, thoughtfully, her forehead wrinkled as she considered this. Amber probably had a lot more of a point than she realized, although Turtle didn't realize that her perspective on it was much different from Jeff's. Jeff and his obsession with boobs (which she didn't have) and more supermodel types, but he still seemed to think that his absolutely and utterly average girlfriend was something stunning and fascinating. She shook her head a little.

"...I'm definitely really lucky to have him," she said. "But I think it goes both ways, because Jeff's really different, but that's what I like about him."

"Looks only carry a person so far," she added softly, more to herself really, remembering Cal's words to her.

Turtle snorted a little at that, grinning. "Well, Jeff isn't exactly prime, grade A hunk, either," she admitted, "but he's cute, still, and I really like his hair, so I think we're just a good match all around."

"I'd like to think that when you love someone? They're perfect in your eyes," she giggled a bit. "But then I can excuse those words by the fact that I might possibly read too much smut."

...And, wow, that was kind of a little more than she needed to know about Amber. Turtle gave her a look for a moment that expressed just that before she tried to just chuckle it off a little. "Well, hey," she said, "that's something you and Jeff have in common, then."

Yeah, Amber kind of said whatever she wanted. Turtle would have to get used to that if she chose to talk to Amber on a regular basis. Or even a semi-regular basis. Or at all. Eh.

"Uh. I never met a boy that read smut, Turtle." Because Amber considered trashy historicals smut.

And Turtle considered smut to be naked lady magazines, so she was a little surprised at Amber's comment.

"What?" she asked. "Are all the boys in Minnesota alter boys, or something?"

Even her dad had smut, but Turtle didn't want to think about that. She probably wasn't supposed to even have found it that one day, but she was searching for good spots to hide her own things. Apparently, Turtle and her father had the same ideas on what made good hiding spots.

Amber shrugged. "Not like I would know what they read, Turtle. I figured only girls like that sort of stuff. What with the kilts and beefy men and all."

"...I think theirs tend to be more the type with big-breasted naked ladies rather than beefy men with kilts," Turtle pointed out. "It's all smutty, though."
