Karaoke For Fun And Profit #3 [Monday, Period 4, 7/14]

Mike was feeling a bit nostalgic today, so he reset the Danger Room simulation to the familiar Club Mystique at the original Montecito casino, as it had looked during the Las Vegas Centennial. "A few years ago, my aunt Gladys Knight performed in Las Vegas to celebrate the city's 100th birthday, and I had the honor of being a member of her back-up group," said Mike. "Now, I couldn't get Aunt Gladys out here today, but I thought we'd talk about a musical genre that is near and dear to my heart: R&B. Like most major music genres, you'll get different sub-sets such as contemporary R&B, soul, funk, and even reggae." As he spoke, Mike passed out a few song catalogs for the students to look through.

"As karaoke singers, the type of R&B songs you'll hear most often are either the Motown classics, which includes hits from the '50s and '60s, or contemporary, which includes R&B hits after the end of the disco era. Today, your task is to perform a song from somewhere in the R&B spectrum. As for myself, I'm going to do one my favorite Gladys Knight song, 'You're The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me.'"

[Please wait for the OCD is up!]

Amber definitely put on a party hat, looking through the catalog to find the perfect song.

She thought she'd chosen the perfect song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8twqlk8zcCc) to sing and she settled herself on the stage with confidence. It came so easy to her now that once Amber was on stage, she simply had fun with it, singing loud enough for everyone to hear her.

"Thank you, Mr. Cannon!" Amber beamed.

Turtle eyed the party hat a little dubiously before finally putting on on. She kept adjusting and fiddling with it a lot thereafter.

It might not have been the best for her vocal range, but Turtle liked it and it was probably the mun's penultimate favourite and she figured it couldn't be any worse that what they were subjected to last week. So she got up on stage, cleared her throat, and sang (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAOOFk549fw).

It probably sounded a lot different than the original, though.

Naomi put on a party hat and she started going through the song catalog so that she could find a song to sing.

When Naomi had her song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQF0evakpOA) picked out, she got on stage and took a deep breath before she started singing. She gave a pretty good performance of the song.

Amber stood up and clapped for Turtle when her song was done. Excellent song. Most of these R&B songs made Amber really wish she had a guy. Woe.

Anyway, "Yay! Turtle! Loved it!"

"Oh, Naomi!" Amber shouted and clapped when the song was done. "One of my favorites!"

Turtle preened a little at the compliment, clapping her hands, too, because this class just made her want to applause and use this icon a lot. "Thanks, Amber! Yours was really good too!"

"Thank you," Amber beamed.

Hopping down from the stage, Turtle moved over to take a seat next to Amber, so she could make an easier time out of goading her a little with an playful elbow to the ribs. "So, you have anyone in mind when you were singing yours, eh? Eh?"

She figured it wouldn't hurt to catch up a little bit with her only female (and, therefor, her favorite by default) employee.

Scrunching up her shoulder, she grinned at the playful elbow to her ribs. "Nooooo," she sing-songed. "Not yet at least and before you ask, I'm not really lookin' either." Her expression turned slightly shifty. "Some people? They just don't date."
