Marshall had ~~handwavily~~ asked the students to meet him at the Danger Shop today. It looked like a normal classroom for the moment.

“Okay guys, today we’re going to cover where a good place to meet future girl/boyfriends is. I am not going to say that these rules are set in stone. Love is a very mysterious thing and can strike anywhere,” Marshall said. “You could meet your future husband or wife in a ball pit at McDonald’s. Just make sure they had an okay reason for being in the ball pit in the first place. There are some sick weirdos out there...”

“So, let’s start with bars. Bars...great place to meet people, yes. Great place to meet potential boy or girlfriends? Not so much. Most people at bars are looking for, well, you know what they’re looking for,” Marshall said. “Not that is a bad thing. But this class is about relationships, not one night stands. Weddings and funerals? Also not good. It’s just wrong to pick up people at funerals. Weddings seem like a good idea but single women are usually emotional wrecks during weddings and the men are most likely drunk. Any number you get from weddings should be dialed with caution.”

“Good places to meet people: schools, the park, places with karaoke, laser tag, grocery stores…pretty much any place where you are doing normal everyday things. It’s less pressure to be cool for everyone involved,” Marshall said. He paused. “Okay, laser tag and karaoke aren’t really normal but if you find somebody interested in either then they are definitely a keeper.”

“So you’re at laser tag, the grocery store, whatever and you find somebody you’re interested in. That’s only half the battle. You’ve got to actually start on a conversation and ask for a date,” Marshall smiled. “Which is what we’ll be doing today.”

“I’ve assigned you all a partner and a place. One of you will have the job of asking the other person out on a date,” Marshall said. “Good luck.”

Brooke looked around the area, decided she wasn't sure if she could take the setting seriously, and started with a simple, "What's a girl like you doing in a place like this? Seriously. It's laser tag."

Ino was not going to laugh. Seriously. Totally not going to laugh at that line.

Really.

She settled for grinning, and asking innocently. "What's wrong with laser tag?"

This, Ino felt, was actually a good question.

"It's..." She paused for a long moment. "All right, my brain is trying to turn everything I say dirty with metaphors about shooting at targets in the dark and we're not supposed to be doing that."

Ino sighed. "Even if that'd be more fun than a fake-relationship?"

She was not the most enthusiastic person about being in this class, no.

"Well... fake-relationships are at least probably more fun than real ones?" she tried.

That got a moment's consideration. "That's true, I suppose," Ino said slowly. "I mean, really, if it's all fake then the messing up and everything is more... a game."

"To be fair, it's kind of like that in real life too, but then you tend to feel bad afterwards." Another pause. "Can this thing just conjure up some hot guys so I can stay in here and fake-date them? No offense or anything."

"Game, yeah. But the feeling bad sucks." Ino snickered. "Totally no offense taken, seriously. I'd much rather fake-date hot guys too."

"Think if we try to double date cute guys, it counts?" she asked, looking around to see if there were any, simulated or not.

"I doubt it," she said, while glancing hopefully around anyway. "I mean, this whole... fake-date thing is supposed to prove a point or something? Give us practice? Something like that. I'm pretty sure the teacher isn't going to be impressed if we try and score fake-dates other people."

She paused.

"...do you think he'd consider it legit, if you asked me out on a date--only it'd be a date so we could go out and totally find some hot guys while we were at it?"

"Yes," Brooke said immediately. "Hey, Ino, wanna be my date to find some hot guys?"

"Sounds good to me," she said, with a toss of her head. "When and where?"

"Caritas, Thursday? We can advertise if need be. And I might get extra credit for it for another class on that day."

Ino spared a brief thought for Michael. Well, what he knew wouldn't hurt him, right? And it wasn't like they'd made anything formal or whatever.

Ugh. Formal.

"I'll be there for sure," she decided, with a nod of her head. "What other class is that?" And why wasn't she taking it?

"The How to Do Your Teenage Years Right Without Getting Your Stomach Pumped class," she said. "I TA."

...

Ino blinked. "Robin-sensei's class?" Wasn't that on Tuesdays?

"Yep. Thursday's her bar night, I figure she can see me in action. Also it will keep me behaving so I don't fail... Wait, I don't fail summer classes do I?"

Ino laughed. "I don't think you can? Especially not a class like that one."

"You know some days I love this school?" she grinned.

That got a sly grin. "Only some days?"

"Depends on whether anything tiny that invaded chewed up my shoes."

"Nothing dares to eat anything of mine," Ino said. "I intimidate them into listening to me."

A beat.

"Or threaten to feed them to the snake, but hey. It works."
