Summer Fitness [Period 2, Friday]

Looking far too pleased with himself, Bond was doing some stretches in the gym as he waited for his class to arrive. Once the students had assembled he began. "Good morning, class, for those of who haven't had a class with me before, my name is James Bond, you may call me Professor Bond, or Sir."

He clapped his hands together. "Now, the class is called Summer Fitness," he said. "Which I think is fairly self explanatory, so after a quick round of introductions where you tell me a bit about yourself and why you're taking the class, we'll get down to some exercises that will enable me to set a baseline for your performance and improvement."

"Let's get started then," he said, pointing at the nearest student.

Ours involved running laps around the softball field. Usually through fairly tall grass. Also fun times.

Our track team and marching band had to practise around the parking lot and the village. Anywhere else, incredibly unsafe, but in our too-small-to-even-be-a-village-technically village?

Of course, it was the year after I graduated that they finally got the grant money for a track. Gooooooood timing!

Our track was right next door to a McDonalds so all you could smell was fries when you ran.

Bastards.

One of the other marching bands in my county had to practice in a parking lot. They'd stencil tiny numbers on the blacktop in various colors for hitting cues, and then after marching season the drum major had to go around and spray paint over them all in black. So for like three months every year their parking lot looked hilarious.
