Basic Cryptozoology - Wednesday - First Period - 7/9

Detective Crown Investigator Abigail Irene Garrett watched her students as they filtered into the room, her eyes keen and her expression thoughtful. Once they'd all sat down, she started to speak.

"Cryptozoology. Literally translated, it means the 'study of hidden animals', the study of and search for animals which fall outside of contemporary zoological catalogues. It consists of two primary fields of research: the search for living examples of animals taxonomically identified through fossil records, but which are believed to be extinct, and the search for creatures that fall outside of taxonomic records due to the necessary inclusion of magic in their creation or evolution. These are the types of things you'd find in myths, legends, or undocumented sightings.

"I realize that this subject might become quite varied depending on the world that each student comes from, but I have hopes that we can instead use the wide range of experience and experienced environments to benefit us all instead of to hold us in an unnecessary stranglehold based on a limited definition."

She took the opportunity to walk out from behind her desk to instead lean against it as she addressed the class.

"My name is Lady Abigail Irene Garrett. You may refer to me as Doctor Garrett, Professor, or DCI Garrett." She smiled at the class as if sharing a private joke. "To be honest, I'll probably respond most quickly to the last. In my own world, I work as a forensic sorceress for the British Crown, which more often than not leads me to handling such creatures as we'll be discussing in the coming weeks.

"Today, we won't really be covering all that much. I'd much rather learn a little about all of you, as well as a little about the places you're coming from and your own practical experience with our subject. So let's get some introductions accomplished while I hand out the syllabus and a small survey I'd like each of you to complete for the sake of everyone's comfort. I will also be waiting after class for anyone interesting in being my teaching assistant."

She smiled again.

"Mary, my maid, would no doubt appreciate it most heartily if someone was interested in the position."

[ocd coming up!][back a lil' bit later have some work to do]

Ella was stuck for a moment, but finally filled in,

For reasons I would prefer to remain private, it would be in everyone's best interest that the subject of fairy gifts not be raised or taught in this class for the protection of myself or other persons on these grounds.

She probably didn't need the protection, but it would still be better for all if she was not put on the spot about the subject, as it would lead to a rather conspicuosly lost temper and a few too many questions.

Chad stared at the survey for a good, long time, gawking slightly in confusion. He could think of maybe a few things he would like to put on there, but those were things that he felt were kind of ridiculous to expect no one to talk about and it wasn't like it really bothered him that much, anyway. He was a lot better at keeping himself from talking about them than he was keeping other people, and that's how he liked to do it, anyway.

So, after a long, long moment where one might have actually thought Chad fell asleep, he finally filled in the blank.

For reasons I would prefer to remain private, it would be in everyone's best interest that the subject of 90s pop music not be raised or taught in this class for the protection of myself or other persons on these grounds.

Honestly, that was the only subject he could think of where he doubted his ability to restrain himself beyond the acceptable classroom conduct.

Hinata stared at the paper for a long time, not sure what to put... in this class there wasn't much of a chance of it coming up--or she didn't think so anyway--and so, it was only after much thought that she quickly put it down.

For reasons I would prefer to remain private, it would be in everyone's best interest that the subject of curse seals not be raised or taught in this class for the protection of myself or other persons on these grounds.

For reasons I would prefer to remain private, it would be in everyone's best interest that the subject of oracular macaws not be raised or taught in this class for the protection of myself or other persons on these grounds.

He didn't particularly think it would come up -- it was a rather specific situation, after all -- and, really, it's not like he needed the protection from it. Still, he was still not entirely comfortable with talking about it -- about him -- and he figured it wouldn't be that much of a loss from the class.

Yurika hesitated for a moment before picking up her pen.

For reasons I would prefer to remain private, it would be in everyone's best interest that the subject of membership in supernatural enforcement not be raised or taught in this class for the protection of myself or other persons on these grounds.

She would always lie if it came up, but she wasn't stupid enough to think she could get away with lying to Garrett-sensei's face. The woman worked for SOLOMON, or something similar, and the last thing Yurika needed was to be outed during class.

For reasons I would prefer to remain private, it would be in everyone's best interest that the subject of Cabals and their laws not be raised or taught in this class for the protection of myself or other persons on these grounds.

That was the last thing she needed right now.

Reno stared at the piece of paper, and then shrugged and filled it in. Sure.

For reasons I would prefer to remain private, it would be in everyone's best interest that the subject of human infusion with the cells of interstellar creatures not be raised or taught in this class for the protection of myself or other persons on these grounds.

Because please to not be with the world ending. Again.

Marco starred at the paper for a long time, trying to figure out what he really, really didn't want brought up.

Alice considered the form, uncertain of what might raise her ire. She couldn't see much. Then again, perhaps it was all right to make a different sort of request.

For reasons I would prefer to remain private, it would be in everyone's best interest that the subject of loved ones dying in a fire not be raised or taught in this class for the protection of myself or other persons on these grounds.

It wasn't for anyone's protection. Merely something she would prefer not to discuss.
