How to Blow Things Up: Week 1, Period 5

"Morning, all," she said with a grin.  "For those of who who don't know me, I'm Alianne of Pirate's Swoop.  Feel free to call me Aly, if you have a need to be formal, duani is also acceptable, but the first person to call me Miss Aly gets things thrown at them.  The class is How to Blow Things Up.  Hopefully explosions are acceptable to all of you-" she rocked back on her heels with a smile - "Because we're going to make a lot of them."

"But not quite today.  Today I want to get to know you and talk about a few important things before anything gets blown up.  First of all, not all of our classes are going to be in the Danger Room.  We're going to be working with real explosives with the real possibility of people getting hurt.  That means that if we're working with them and I tell you to do something, you need to do it immediately.  No questions, no what-ifs, no counterpoints, get down or get out of the way or stop what you're doing." 

"If you think that's going to be a problem for you, that's fine, but you need to go find a new class now."

"Secondly, this is a class about explosives - C4, hand grenades, TNT, the like.  We're going to have a class on magical ways, but outside of that , if you have special abilities that allows you to blow up things - or set them on fire -" she glanced at Zuko if he was there "I'd prefer the focus stay on the more chemical explosives."

"And finally," she began passing out what looked like basic floorplans of the school.  "For the last class, you're each going to design a strategy for blowing up the school.  I realise the idea is a bit passé after the past year, but let's pretend it's not the case.  Take the floorplans, take a look at them, and keep the project in mind as the workshop progresses."

She paused, watching the class.  "Now that that's out of the way, why don't you all introduce yourselves - even those I've already met, yes, and tell me a bit about yourself as well as your familiarity or experience with making things go boom."

Even though he was trying his best to hide it, Karal was nervous. He was beginning to think this had not been a good idea at all.

:We're here now,: Altra told him from where he was leaning against Karal's legs and looking around the room so Karal could see. :If the worst happens, I'll Jump us out.:

That was somewhat reassuring, and Karal bent down to stroke Altra's head.

Ella was both intrigued and frightened by this class, and that mix of emotions probably showed as she listened.

Agnes stared. After the last class she'd had, she shouldn't have been so surprised to find out that the class title wasn't a joke, and yet she still couldn't quite believe what she was hearing. The class was thoroughly unsafe! And CRAZY!

She tried to squelch the voice inside her that was shouting with glee.

As soon as she mentioned real explosives John's face broke into a huge grin. Working with the real thing was going to be awesome.

Ichigo still didn't know how he ended up in this class, but blowing things up didn't sound too boring. He was reclining back in his seat and looking at the rest of the class to see if he recognised anyone.

Karal took a deep breath, concentrated on making sure his chin wasn't pointing at the ceiling, and said, "My name is Karal Austreben, I am a Sun-priest of Vkandis Sunlord, and the only experience I have with explosives is watching someone else make and use them. She's very good," he added. "And--" Karal hesitated, but the person who was going to be teaching him to use very dangerous things should know if anyone should. He was fairly sure she wouldn't make him leave. "I am blind," he said quietly, "but I can see through Altra's eyes."

The Firecat nodded gravely in Aly's direction.

"I'm Ella," Ella said. "I am a junior, and from a place called Frell. We don't have weapons this sophisticated at home, but I want to learn as much as I can while I'm here."

"I'm Liz Sherman," Liz said, "I'm from Newark, New Jersey and I'll be a junior this fall. Um..." she hesitated slightly, "I'm a pyrokinetic... most of my experience with explosives as been as a result of this...not by choice though," she said quietly, "I've got better control then I used to have,"

"Hannibal King," he said, getting used to giving introductions in class now. "Not really a king though if anyone has a kingdom, I'd be happy to step in as your royal monarch."

He waited for takers. And was almost disappointed when there was none.

"Anyway. I'm from Earth, which is weird to have to clarify, and I've used a lot of fireworks, bottle rockets, stink bombs, cherry bombs and I'm a big fan of Pop Rocks."

"My name is Agnes Nitt, and I'm from... Lancre, in the Ramtops, which is in a different universe. I'm a witch, and... I've seen fireworks?"

After the blind kid who saw through his cat's eyes, a pyrokinetic and a witch Ichigo almost felt like he had to make something up as to not stand out.

"I'm Ichigo Kurosaki. I'm from Karakura Town in Japan and I'll be a Junior when the year starts up. I can't say I've had to blow anything up before so I don't have any experience."

"I'm John," he gave a little wave and nod of his very hairy head. "I'm a senior, and I've had really generic, low-key experience, like setting off fireworks."

Reno nodded and settled back in his seat.

"Name's Reno. I'm from a city called Midgar on a world called Gaia, and don't bother ever tryin' to get there. It's a pretty crappy vacation spot lately." He shrugged. "I've got a bunch of practical experience with blowin' things up. Some things... a little bigger than others."

If there was a bit of a dour tone in his voice, he was making a point to cover that up with a relatively neutral facial expression.

"I'm Princess Cimorene of Linderwall, but I've been the Head Cook and Librarian for the Dragon Kazul for a year before coming here so I actually can do something useful. I have, however, never worked with explosives before."

"I'm Evey Hammond," she said quietly, but not shyly. "I'm a senior this year, and nearly two years ago, I helped to reform my version of England. I, um, did this by helping to blow up our Parliament buildings. Almost all of my explosive knowledge is self-taught, but before he died, I learned a bit at the feet of one of the best munitions experts I've ever encountered."

"Edmund Pevensie," Ed said when it was his turn, "of Narnia. Explosives aren't my speciality and most of my experience has been on the receiving end. I prefer to deal with more conventional fighting though I know my enemy won't always feel the same way."
