Though somehow, he doubted that the owners of The Paper Lantern would have given him an advance on his next paycheck, knowing that he was going to be gone at least through the summer.

And yes, she'd rather be miserable for the next however long they made her stay than admit that they'd won.

"Sounds to me like they're expecting you to be miserable out here." He smirked faintly. "So prove them wrong and enjoy it. Anyone that gets their kicks by throwing rocks probably wouldn't like to get news that you're doing well in a place they can't get to."
Warren had moment of being weirdly thoughtful. He wasn't necessarily always right. But he could be thoughtful.

Which would be why she turned her head slightly away so he wouldn't see her not being teary.
"Maybe I will," she said. And then more firmly. "Yes. I will show them."

He wasn't really the greatest at dealing with not-teary girls. So he sort of cleared his throat and decided to be... friendly or something.
"If you want help with that," he ventured, "I'm in room 315. Can probably come up with ways to make this place... good for you."
Or... something.
