"Girls," Romeo informed her, "are evil."

This was an answer, yes.

"If Dojima didn't model anything for you later," Rikku said, grinning mischeviously, "then she really is evil."

"Anything she did or did not do after we checked into the hotel is between her, me, and possibly the hotel staff, who were tipped well for their discretion," Romeo protested.

"How long were you planning that?"

Rikku laughed at that. "Impatient?"

She lowered her voice. "Honestly, we weren't. Uh. We took the day to go shopping and then texted you to see if you missed us, because it'd be funny, and then one of us had the idea of sending a picture, because ... you'd be running around like crazy and have no idea where we were. How did you find us, anyway!?"

Romeo reddened but didn't answer the first question. As if he had ever in his life been patient, anyhow.

"We did miss you, and the photos were greatly appreciated." And then some. "Reno didn't tell you how we found you?" he asked skeptically. "If he didn't, I ought not."

"We were ... um." Rikku's turn to blush, badly. "He said he was a Turk and something about a challenge? The, uh, the topic kinda came up but it got dropped again?"

Somehow. Mysteriously. Not involving the removal of clothing or anything like that.

"Then that is the answer you shall have," he told her, because it wasn't as if he'd had much to do with the solution. "It was a challenge for the Turks, not for my poor skills."

Rikku laughed. "We really didn't think you would find us," she explained. "It was kinda ... here, let's text them. Here, we'll show them what they're missing. Wait, they're here? Bussssss-ted."

He laughed. "So perhaps we came too quickly. if we would have gotten more modeling shots otherwise."

"Maybe we should make it a weekly game?" Rikku laughed. "Each week, we pick a new spot, and you guys have to find us. Could be fun."

"Could get expensive," he noted. "I say we get to hide next."

Okay, now Rikku was cracking up too hard to breathe.

"Only if you promise to pose together, wearing little skimpy corsets," she managed.

That was a disturbing mental picture. And yet? Oddly pretty.

"You can't think of anything more interesting for us to wear than corsets?" he asked innocently.

"Look, if you'd rather have a leather catsuit, you're totally gonna have to talk Reno into it," she giggled.

Romeo raised an eyebrow. "Rikku, remind me I never want to know overmuch about what goes on in your head."

"...how do you feel about kilts?" he added hopefully.

"Okay," Rikku said, not seeming too put out by the request. "Kilts are okay. Anything to show off those hot legs, right?"

Rikku was, perhaps, incorrigible.

Romeo choked back a laugh, hitched up his pants leg, and shook a rather pale, skinny limb in her direction. "You mean this one? Free show..."

"Oh, oh, I'm dying!" Rikku mock-swooned. "I must have you! I'll risk Dojima's wrath! ... Is she looking? 'Cause I'm not risking her wrath if she's looking."

"She's nowhere in sight," Romeo answered, mock-breathlessly. "Come with me, darling, and we will start work on Payido!"

He hesitated. "You don't really care about graduating, do you?"

"I'll lie and assure Reno she's his," Rikku vowed, mock-solemnly. Then she frowned. "Care about it? I mean, I hope I do, I just ..."

She stopped short. "Wow, we have to leave next year, don't we?"

That ... sucked.

Romeo's grin deflated like someone let the air out of him.

"We do," he agreed quietly. He'd just been thinking along the lines of, if they were having a baby she'd need to drop out, Verona not being the most enlightened place about such things.

There ... really didn't seem to be a lot more to say.

"Sorry," Rikku said. "A whole year, though. That's a long time."

"Twice as long as I've been here," Romeo agreed.

Which made him remember where he had been a year before, and he fell to busying himself by fiddling with his cigarettes.

"I'm halfway through," she said, nodding. "And yours depends totally on how you count France, you know."

Which seemed a slightly better topic than last year.

"I should tell Dojima I'll be 18, if I count France, in less than a week," Romeo noted. "She may give up pretending I'm so terribly younger than her then."

...because that was clearly important/
