"I'm a King, not a Wilson," he said. "I stop short of saying I'm The King though."

Okay, that she had to crack up at.

"Welcome," she said, waving. "I'm not usually this weird, honest. You look just like my mentor did, when he was kinda not-himself for a week? So I couldn't tell if ... wow, this island really makes explaining things weird, doesn't it?" She shook her head. "I'm not insane. Really. Uh. Where are you a king of?"

"King of All Things," he randomly decided. "It makes life worth living."

"I guess it would," Rikku grinned, thinking on that. "If it wasn't just a fancy title. I mean, is there any power to that? And how big is the range, anyway?"

"There's no crown if that's what you're asking," Hannibal said.

"It wasn't," Rikku mused. "But it's still a shame. You'd make a good crown person. Some wouldn't."

"Think so?" Hannibal tossed his oh so long hair about. "Got a good head?"

"Very nice," she nodded. "I approve. It's a shame they don't give kings crowns any more. You should get that looked into. Disapprove a lot, and glare."

"Then, people might not like me," Hannibal said. "And that'd just be a shame and a half."

"See, these are the setbacks of power," Rikku said, nodding mock-solemnly. "All the little people envy you. It might be your downfall."

"And I kinda like the little people," he mock whispered. "Don't tell anyone. Ruin the reputation that I'm building."

"I'll never breathe a word," she nodded. "Watch for the squirrels, they might narc you out."

Fandom even sounded ridiculous when you were being silly on purpose.

"The squirrels?" Hannibal asked in disbelief. "The squirrels are tattletales?"

"No one told you?" Rikku chirped. "Yeah. The squirrels take notes and put everything on radio. Which is way creepy, but you get used to it."

"You guys just don't have regular reporters who hide in the bushes with a notebook and a dream?" Hannibal asked.

"Nope," Rikku said. "They're squirrels. You can bribe them with rum. And they report everything, like, boring crap that real reporters wouldn't care about. Seriously."

"Drunk squirrels who report the news." Hannibal nodded. "No less trippy than those stupid bears who shoot colorful power things out of their stomachs."

"Whoa," Rikku said. "I haven't seen those. Do they have lots of things like that where you're from?"

Rikku was clearly missing some vital 80s cartoons.

"Where I'm from?" Hannibal repeated. "I'm from the US of A, where cartoons range from stupid bears that shoot shit from their stomachs to a group of teenagers and an annoying dog."

"Oooh, I've seen some of those," Rikku said, nodding. "Your cartoon-things. They're nifty. I'm not from here. The USA thing, I mean. Or, like, here. It's a dimensional thing."

"Another parallel one?" Hannibal asked.

"I don't think it's parallel?" Rikku frowned. "I mean, none of this stuff is familiar. It's a different place entirely, everything works differently, it's just ... uh. I'm not an alien, I just had to go sideways to get here."
