Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

"Ino," Romeo agreed. "And I'm Romeo, by the way."

"Sleeping on things generally makes them easier; if nothing else, you'll feel more settled."

Ichigo nodded in greeting. "I'm Ichigo, but I suppose she told you that already?"

He made a face. "If I can sleep. I have 14 hours to catch up on." The jetlag was going to suck.

"Actually she did not -- she just waved in your direction," Romeo said. "it is nice to meet you, Ichigo."

He was slightly puzzled by the mention of 14 hours. "Long trip here, then?" he guessed.

"A bit," he agreed. "I'm from Japan." He had the strange feeling he might regret this. "So are you a ninja, an alien or a ghost'n'demon hunter?"

"I'm a rare breed at Fandom, as I come from a world without any of the above," Romeo said, shrugging. "I'm from California. My girlfriend is from Tokyo, though, and we were there perhaps three weeks ago."

"I'm from Tokyo," Ichigo said. "From Karukara Town. It's one of the suburbs. Did you like it?"

"It was loud and noisy and bright," Romeo said truthfully. "I liked the clubs. I hadn't been to a city in some time, so it was overwhelming, but in far from a bad way."

"I don't much go there myself," Ichigo admitted. "Karakura is a lot more subdued." Not counting hollow invasions.

"We were trying to stay away from her parents," Romeo admitted. "This place is generally quiet. Except for the invasions."

He'd been told a lot already, but this was new. "Invasions?"

"While we were in Tokyo there were ghosts and demons from the underworld here," Romeo nodded seriously. "Oh, and a few months ago there were stone angels that sent people to the past. I ended up in 1898 Paris for four months."

As if realizing this was not the most reassuring news to send at a newbie, he helpfully added, "People don't seem to die very often."

Ichigo wondered if those ghosts and demons were the same as the ones Dean had been talking about. "I think Ino's going to be proud of your brain breaking skills," he decided, not sure if he should ask more about the whole stone angels thing or not.

"We were worried they wouldn't let me graduate if I didn't break at least one person in the next few batches of newbies," Romeo said apologetically. "Though if you're already broken, you were perhaps not the person to start with."

Ichigo smirked. "I heal quickly. I think you're good."

"Then that's something," Romeo smiled back. "So does your Tokyo have ghosts and demons and things that go bump in the night, or is it all entirely new to you?"

"Well... There this television show where a guy pretends to exorcise ghosts. Does mad media count?" Which wasn't a lie, it wasn't really an answer either however.

So he either wasn't a witch type, or was from a different world than Dojima. Or it was simply none of Romeo's business -- which, really, it wasn't.

"If you want it to," he shrugged. "Just, here, if someone said he exorcised ghosts, he'd most likely be telling the truth."

"So I shouldn't have laughed at him?" Ichigo checked. The whole idea was still ridiculous, despite what Chad had said about different afterlives.

"The one on TV, possibly," Romeo shrugged. "Someone here? Probably not. Though it might help the ones that take themselves too seriously."

Not that Romeo had personal knowledge of this. Ahem.

"Can we go with it that it was pre-emptive strike?" Ichigo asked.

"Absolutely," Romeo concurred, amused. "Besides, I suspect I laughed at the first person to try to show me magic."

There was a pause and Ichigo stared at Romeo. "Magic?"

He considered claiming jetlag and going to hide out in his room.

"Telekinesis, spells, powers, whatever one calls it," he shrugged, amused by the pause. "Some people here have it and are delighted to demonstrate it to new students."

"Is that your way of saying some people are just show offs?" Ichigo asked.

"... yes," Romeo said, after running through how he had said it. "I used to be harder yet to understand."

Which was not showing off, merely stating a fact.
