"I'm Ender," he said. Another person come to be his friend. He could almost pretend he was lucky. "You're not new."

That was new-- or maybe it had always been that way, and life just hadn't let Ender notice.

"That's convenient," Ender muttered. The information took its place in his slowly-growing file of knowledge about his new school. Four terms. Four times to learn.

Are they trying to teach me something new? He thought; infinite patience, and a rhythm from season to season. It took him a moment to clarify, "I'll have a break soon."
