Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

"It sounds absolutely fascinating," she told him with a slightly oversweet smile.

"You will have to tell me what a 'computer' is, however."

Tyler gave her a blank look.

Then he remembered she was from 1898.

"It's a ..." right, he could explain this; it just required he pretended he didn't know what one was, which took some mental gyrations. "Box," he finally said. "That kind of makes things happen. You can play games or do math, write letters, build weapons, read books on this thing called the Internet ... Look, when you get your office number, let me know and I'll walk you through it."

"Does it run on magic or technology?"

It would, at least, give her a kind of framework to set her assumptions on.

"Technology," he said, then, clarifying. "Electricity."

"I had assumed," she said with a brief smile.

"Well... you will have to explain that strange little glamourbox to me sometime next week. I have no class on Monday, if you'd like to do so then handwavily or not?"

"Mondays are normally my office days anyhow," Tyler told her. "I'll stop by when you're set up."
