Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

"Icebergs?" Agnes asked. "We're on the coast?"

She tried to divert her attention from his glistening shoulders by asking "So... How, then?"

"Oh, I dunno. Probably magic. It's powerful like that," Toby said. "The island moves, too."

He's a bit dim, isn't he? Perdita thought. But delicious. I'd sure like to...

Agnes worked to stifle those thoughts as best as she could. The blush was still simmering gently. "We're on an island?" she asked. "A moving island? I've never been on an island before." An absolutely stunning observation, there.

"Islands are great," Toby said excitedly. "It's like half beach, half school, and half town. I should show you around. I work at the clothing store and my boyfriend works at the gallery."

That's an awful lot of halves.

"Oh, I'd like that," Agnes found herself saying. "I'd like that a -- did you say 'boyfriend'?" He... didn't mean what it sounded like he meant, did he?

"Yeah, Kevin. We've been together forever," Toby told her. "Like four months, or a few weeks if you count break ups. Do you have a girlfriend?"

To her credit, Agnes didn't actually stare at him. Of course, the blush was burning brightly again, and starting to feel more awkward. "How very... cosmopolitan of you," she eventually said. "I hope the two of you are very... " pretty "...happy together. No, I'm single, myself."

The fact that he'd seen what she looked like and not immediately laughed at the idea of her finding romance -- even if he was... different in ways polite people didn't normally talk about -- gave her a little bit of confidence. She impulsively added, "At the moment. Single at the moment."
