Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

"Welcome to Fandom High," Chris said. "It's currently July of 2008 here. I'm from San Francisco and back home it's 2021."

"Right. This is like Blair telling me we're in Antarctica," he said. "Look, I'm all for drinking the Kool-Aid so if you can point me in the direction of whatever drugs people are taking here and I'll get in line for some."

"We are in Anarctica," Chris said. "The island has been moving every couple of weeks this summer. And Fandom is... a rather unusual place. Is there magic where you're from?"

Chuck knew a stripper named Magic but he didn't think that was what Chris was referring to. "We've got guys in top hats pulling rabbits out of hats. Oh, and girls in black who smell like burnt oregano."

Chris smirked again and lifted his hand. With a flick of his wrist, Chuck's scarf unwound from his neck and fell to the ground.

To say that Chuck was surprised was an understatement. But as quickly as the surprise came, it was gone. He had a reputation as an unshakable badass to maintain after all.

"How'd you do that?" he asked after he bent down to pick up his baby scarf.

"Magic," Chris replied. "I'm a witch."

"I thought only girls were witches."

Way to focus on what was important, Chuck.

"Most of the witches I know are women," Chris admitted. "My brother and I are special cases."

Chuck ran a hand through his hair for a moment. "You know, if I hadn't already had one of my best friends talk to me about penguins and Antarctica today I would argue with you on this witch thing. But that plus the scarf...I'd hate to admit this was real but what else am I supposed to do?"

"Fandom lesson number one is that life will be easier if you are able to accept pretty much anything," Chris said. "There are people here from the future, from the past, from other planets, everything."

"There is no way my dad knew about this before he sent me here," Chuck said, mostly to himself. "He would have tried to buy the town already."

"That's a pretty common reaction," Chris said. "Got any questions?"

"I think I've been traumatized enough for the moment, thank you," Chuck said, not sounding too unfriendly. That was pretty good for Chuck.

"Well, I'm in room 306 of the dorms," Chris said. "If you need anything, feel free to give me a call or stop by."
