Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

Katchoo, who weighed all of maybe 110 pounds, drew herself up to her full five feet three inches, jaw twitching just a bit. "Cubic metres? I don't do metric, frikkin' clown."

"Yeah, and I guess you forgot to do much growing either," Bender told her. "Bring much of your meatbag luggage with you?"

. . . you know, if their room stayed intact through the end of the summer it was going to be a damn miracle, at this rate.

Katchoo kicked the duffel bag at her feet. "That's all I got."

"Right." She couldn't be that difficult a room-mate, and he'd had years of practice at not killing humans for being annoying.

Bender took a reflexive look at her bag. Probably nothing worth stealing. Then, because some habits die hard, "Is any of that alcohol?" he asked, hopefully.

"I wish," Katchoo said. Despite her promise to Emma, she wasn't sure she could give up on the booze just yet. Hell, at this rate? She'd probably need it. "Couldn't sneak any on with me on the flight from Hawaii, and what the hell? I thought this place was in Virginia."

"I think I broke my last bottle," Bender said, taking out and shaking its jagged remains, wondering if he'd have to start brewing his own again.

"I've never seen an iceberg in Virginia," Bender said. "But I'm not from around here."

"Me neither," said Katchoo, though she didn't volunteer any more biographical data than that. "How hard can it be to get some, anyway?"

God knew she'd never had trouble.

"It can't be that hard," Bender told her. "Someone said there's a bar in town." Yes, he'd already found that out. He had his priorities.

"And passing fake ID's easy," Katchoo added with a disdainful snort. Most people were dumb, after all.

"You need ID to drink here?" Bender said speculatively. He shrugged, it was only a problem if he actually bought the beer.

"Where the hell are you from? Everywhere cards. It's a frikkin' pain in the ass," Katchoo grumbled.

"Not in the 31st century," said Bender. "Least not for robots. New New York's easy." Like he knew or cared if humans still got carded.

Katchoo couldn't help herself; she just started snickering.

"Hey! What?" Bender knew it, all humans from Fry's time were as dumb as he was.

"Nothing, I --" Katchoo doubled over again with a sinus-threatening snort of laughter.

"Humans," Bender shook (spun) his head. "Can't live with them, can't kill them all."

"Yeah," Katchoo said once she'd recovered from the (more than) slightly hysterical fit of brainbroken laughter. "Damn shame."
