Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

Teyla always found herself thinking back to her first day here when new students arrived. She wasn't sure if her assigned sibling would need as much help as she had, but there was only one way to find out.

When she spotted the right nametag, she made her way over with a friendly smile. "Hello. Andrew, I presume?"

"Ender, actually." So that was to be his big sibling, then. Not a brother, but a sister-- he felt an odd surge of frustration curl up in his belly, but it vanished as easily as it had come. "Are you Teyla?"

"I am," she said, making a mental note of his preferred name. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Did you have any trouble getting here?"

"No problems at all." The IF escort had taken him to the causeway, through the cold-- they'd delivered him, like he was a package with something fragile inside. "I had an escort."

"Oh, good. You're already off to a better start than I was," Teyla said. "I did not intend to be here when I first arrived."

He hadn't exactly had the intent, either, but that was really neither here nor there-- and nothing that hadn't surprised him. "So how did you get here?" Ender asked, because if she hadn't... he wondered where he'd been left now.

"It was an accident," Teyla explained. "I was setting out for a mission with some of my people, and we were using...well, it is a lot like the portals here. Something went wrong when I went through - I assume my companions arrived without trouble. But I ended up here."
