Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

She jumped at the sound of someone calling her name and wandered over blinking curiously at him.

"How can you be looking for me when I didn't even know I'd be here?" Viki asked curiously. "How very odd..."

"Your name was on a list," Worf replied gruffly. "And I am to help you adjust to this school. I too did not expect to be here but nevertheless had a sibling to assist me in my transition."

She clapped her hands together. "I don't think I've ever had a sibling, really. There's one that shows up but I don't know if we're really siblings or not... I can't remember..."

"Even if it's only temporary," because it would have to be temporary since nothing she had was ever permanent, "thank you very much for being my sibling!"

Worf blinked and adjusted his stance slightly. "You are welcome. What do you need to know?" he demanded.

"I don't know?" she said, turning it over in her head. "I don't really know what I don't know so how could I ask for any explanation on what I don't know?"

Worf resisted the urge to sigh in frustration.

"You are at Fandom High," he explained gruffly. "It is a school. Were you aware of that?"

"The nice man who gave me coffee mentioned something about that, I think?" she tried to remember. "I showed up in his apartment, you see."

"Good," Worf replied. "You will attend classes here and socialize with other students. Additionally strange things tend to happen here and you must be prepared for that."

Viki merely blinked mildly at the orders. She might, she might not, it was really hardly likely she'd even remember the order come tomorrow, but alright.

"What sort of strange things?"

"People will turn into animals," he replied gruffly. "Or the island will be invaded by small cute animals who like to dance. Or sing. Additionally people who teach classes might be somewhat insane. Most of it is usually harmless."

"How fun!" she said. "I've never heard of a school like this before."

"Neither have I," Worf said now surveying the other students as if looking for trouble to erupt. "However I'm sure if you apply yourself you will excel academically."

"Does it really matter?" Viki wanted to know. "What if I never need what I learn...?"

"Sometimes the pursuit of the goal is as important as the object learned," Worf said gruffly. "The objective may not be important but the experience can be helpful."

"I don't think I've ever really had a goal before," she mused. "How very odd to think of having one."

"Goals are important," Worf replied. "They can define who you are. Perhaps my first suggestion for you is find your own set of goals."

"That would be rather worrisome really," Viki confided. "As then it'd be that much harder the next time I wind up somewhere else."

"Then perhaps your goal should prepare you for your next... somewhere else," Worf said, sounding a bit exasperated. "Otherwise why would you be here?"

She looked at him; confused. "I sneezed and was here?"

Worf gave her a careful look. "Was there a man pretending to be an admiral in front of you when it happened?"

She shook her head. "No, just by myself. It happens sometimes with the sneezing and then the being elsewhere, but you can't plan for it."

Or make plans if you don't know how long you'll stick around for.

"Then I recommend an antihistamine," Worf replied seriously. "And avoid any dust or allergens."

She had the best big brother ever, Viki decided. "I'll try to remember that," she promised.
