Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

Helen rolled her eyes. "Oh, thank you. And what did you do to get shipped here?"

Her smile faltered only slightly, "my guardian knew about the school, it was pretty much the only school that would accept me," well, it was part of the truth.

"Hmph." Helen turned and stared away for a moment.

"So... glaciers?" she said after a few moments. "Have they shipped me to a world of ice, then? That will be lovely after growing up in a desert."

"This has only been a recent thing for Fandom," Liz explained, "it's normally located off Alexandria, Virgina but for the past summer it's been moving to different locations around the world, staying in each place mostly for a couple of weeks,"

Helen sniffed dismissively. "As if that place would mean anything to me. But... the city itself moves? Across worlds?"

Was this a new trick of Their's?

"Well only across one world at this stage," Liz wouldn't have put it past Fandom if it could move through different worlds, "but the island's being moving since the middle of May,"

"A relatively new thing then," Helen said thoughtfully, forgetting some of her annoyance as she considered this. "And how long have you been here?"

"Since the start of the 2007 spring semester," Liz replied, "so about a year and a half,"

"Hmph," Helen said again. "And it has never done this before?"

"As far as I can tell it hasn't, certainly not while I've been here," Liz answered, she paused, "so where do you come from Helen?" she asked.

"My world has no name is one of hot sand and torrential downpours, of violence and warfare, largely caused by Them. But now that they have been sent running for their lives we hope to bring peace to it again." Helen made a face. "That was to have been my job, but now, I am sent here instead."

"Oh," Liz said quietly, unsure of what else to say.

"And you?" Helen asked, deciding she should at least make some sort of effort here.

"I'm from Newark, New Jersey," Liz replied.

Helen just raised her eyebrows. "Is that from this world or some other?"

Re: Meet Your Big/Little Sibling (Summer 2008 - 2.0)

[identity profile] pyroliz.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"It's from this world," Liz nodded.

Helen sighed. "I suppose I shall have to learn about this place if I am to understand what people are speaking of."

"Fandom can take some getting used to," Liz said, "I found it difficult when I first came here,"

"It can't be worse than the cannibal world," Helen said dryly.

[identity profile] pyroliz.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"No I don't think it will be worse than that," Liz had to admit.

Helen almost managed a smile. "Good to know."
