Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.
Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.
It was time for the picnic to begin!
[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

"Detective Crown Investigator Abigail Irene Garrett," she introduced herself with a faint smile of her own, "though I suppose I shall be only Doctor Garrett during my stay here."
She was not fired, she reminded herself. This was simply a sabbatical.
She was still going to kill Richard, however.
"You have a lovely campus, if you don't mind a compliment."

The last was spoken with a faint, dry amusement; not a true complaint at all, at least it didn't sound like it, but rather an anecdote to share.
Mike, for his part, sniffed faintly at Harriet's feet but did nothing untoward: no barking, no jumping... he was being very good.

"Thankfully, not my experience. Has it happened to anyone else?"
Mike, for his part, sniffed at her fingers before giving one of them a lick. Abby Irene smiled.
"Mike seems to like you," she told Harriet with a grin of approval. "Which is certainly an ease on my concerns. He's never really wrong about people."
She breathed in and considered what to say.
"Please do call me Abby Irene if you like, incidentally," seemed like a good place to start.

She was only partly serious. Harriet moved to scratch the dog behind the ears, saying, "And you're certainly a charming fellow, aren't you?" She glanced up. "In that case, I'm simply Harriet. No need for titles, everyone knows who I am."
Re: Meet Your Teachers (Summer 2008 - 2.0)
The scritching earned Harriet another lick and a tail wagging almost fast enough to kick up a small breeze. Considering that she'd had his docked, as she'd had no intention of making him a ratter, this was quite an achievement.
"A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Harriet. You're certainly putting most of my fears to rest about the next few months."
She liked having a woman in charge. If there was anyone who'd paid for the death of the Iron Queen and the end of her reign, it was Abby Irene.

Well, he did, just a little, but then he settled down between the two women, one paw on Abby Irene's boot.
"Cats are lovely creatures as well, very mindful of my work, thankfully. But they can be almost purposefully unhelpful sometimes. I'm glad you got things straightened out. What's his name, if you don't mind me asking?"
