Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Despite the fact that they were still in Antarctica, the weather for the picnic was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and clear enough to see many of the icebergs circling the island from the school's location. If people were still cold, there was more warm food than usual out on the tables, and hot drinks were being kept well-stocked.

Along with the tables and chairs near the food, there was a table of nametags, and two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

It was time for the picnic to begin!

Ichigo shrugged a shoulder. Ender just seemed to have a lot of meaning, but he either didn't want to talk about it or he never thought about it. It didn't really matter which way it was, he let the topic go.

"I am," he said with a nod. "I'm from Karakura Town. Does school always start later here? I thought I would be the only student to arrive a week too late."

"I don't know," Ender replied, and filed that away in his mind. Ichigo's school system was different than wherever they had found themselves now-- and at least in that respect, they were equally lost. "I'm a little new here, too."

Ichigo scratched the back of his neck and nodded slowly. "Where are you from anyway?" he wondered.

Eros had been classified. But that had changed, and now Ender was caught on an answer to that question. In essence, he didn't know what it was-- and no one ever asked the question.

They knew better than that.

He gave Ichigo a moment's pause before he could give an answer to the form of the question. "I was born in the United States," he said, "I traveled a lot."

Ichigo hadn't thought it a particular difficult question and it made him wonder if he should keep asking or not.

"That's cool, I haven't been much of anywhere," he replied, deciding Soul Society didn't count. "This is the first time I left Japan."

"You could have picked somewhere worse," Ender replied, and he supposed that was true, even if the sunlight was still an irritating stab in his eyes. He blinked again to clear them.

"I'll believe that," he agreed quickly. He wondered why jut for an instant Ender looked out of place of sorts, but the moment passed all too quickly.

"We'll see if you still believe that after you've shared a room with me," he joked. Not that he was particularly messy. He was far too responsible for that.

"I'll let you know if you turn out to be a pig." Would sharing a room with one boy be different from what he'd known? He wondered what the purpose was. To bond, maybe-- like fake brothers and sisters. "I like things to be organized."

"As long as I can let you know if you're one too," Ichigo said instantly, not that he would need permission to inform Ender. He would hear it if there was a trouble.

There was an instant where his frown became more pronounced, his forehead wrinkling as he realized that if Rukia were to show up, he wouldn't be able to let her sleep in his closet. Which was stupid as he hated having her in his closet in the first place and there was no way she was going to show up.

"Do we need to make some kind of rules or something?"

Did Ichigo have issues with the room assignment? There was something in that frown, but for now, Ender would drop it, leave it unless it turned out to be a problem.

"Don't bother me when I'm working," he replied, "That's all."

Ichigo was all for not bothering or being bothered.

"I think we have a deal there," he decided, holding out his hand.

"Deal," Ender repeated, rolling the not entirely unfamiliar slang in his mouth as he took Ichigo's hand and shook it firmly.
