All of the students who'd earned or been given detention had been told to meet Fraser outside of the Danger Shop. And that's precisely where he was.

"Good morning," he said pleasantly. "I trust you all slept well and I thank you for being on time. Please enter the Danger Shop."

It is now seven-oh-six. You have exactly ~~eight hours and fifty-four minutes~~ four hours and fifty four minutes to think about why you're here. To ponder the error of your ways and you may not talk. You will not move from these seats and you will not sleep.

"Before you begin your detention," Fraser said, looking down at them, "I would like to hope that we never meet again in this circumstance. I once met an Inuit elder who said that, those who get into trouble once learn from their mistakes. Those who get into trouble twice obviously have hard heads and deserve whatever trouble comes at them next."

He smiled and then gathered up each person's snacks before shooing them into the Danger Shop library.

Ino glanced at him dubiously. "How intricate can you seriously get in a paper airplane?"

John glanced up at her and replied, "Very."

"Is there a class or something that taught you that?" Ino had to ask. "Or did you just figure it out yourself?"

What? It was either talk, or be bored. Not a lot of options there.

"It's just simple aerodynamics," John told her. "No need for a class when you can practice."

"Don't the regular ones fly well enough?" She leaned back in her chair. "I mean, I've never had a problem with the usual ones."

He paused, looking his plane over. "I find advanced flight more...interesting," John said finally.

"They don't have any flight where I'm from," she explained, "so I don't really know anything about it."

"Really?" John was shocked. Everyone around here seemed to have some sort of airborne transport that was either significantly better than what he was used to or at least as good.

"Really really. None," she said, wrinkling her nose cheerfully. "So, yeah, anything that can fly is totally not something I know 'bout."

"So you never even had paper airplanes?" John asked.

"We did," she said ~~because canon is screwy that way~~, "but that's about the extent of what we've got."

"Amazing that no one bothered to go beyond the paper," he was having a difficult time imagining this.

"They wouldn't be very useful in our world," she said, considering, "and if you need something fast to one place, hiring a ninja works well."

"So ninjas can travel faster than flight?"

Ino considered that thoughtfully. "I think there's a few that have claimed that?" she said, "but not really, no. But we don't need to, so... what'd the point be?"

"Huh, I think people who don't want to fly are crazy."

"It's not that crazy if you've never really heard of it being an option before."

"But you have paper planes..."

This didn't compute in John's mind.

"Well, yeah, but they're only small and used for tossing at each other? I guess no one... ever thought to apply it anywhere else?"

Ino tried to make sense of it, but uh, yeah didn't have much to work with here.
